The Audit Manager role is based within Audit.

The role of the Audit Manager is to deliver audits, some major and/or highly
complex, which provide internal customers and stakeholders with critical
assessments of the HSBC governance, risk and internal control frameworks.

The role holder is responsible for ensuring that audit assignments are
completed in a timely and efficient manner with due respect to the standards
established by Global Internal Audit (GBL INA), industry best practices and
the relevant risk and regulatory environment. Consequently, Audit Manager is
responsible for providing specialist professional advice on audit findings and
recommendations, thus ensuring that they are both fully understood and
properly implemented by management

This role will support the audit program in the UK and across Europe.

The role requires ability to work in the main home market of one of the
largest Banking Institutions in the world and significant exposure to senior
management within the organisation. Travel to London will be expected on a
regular basis. International travel within Europe is likely and may form a
moderate portion of this role.

Training programme which combines class room based learning with regular

Your responsibilities will include:

Developing a good understanding of the strengths, weaknesses and limitations
of the banks' current business model and how that might impact an audit
Fully understanding the impact of their audit findings, including
recommendations for improvements in business processes, on the current and
future business model and operating environments
Ensuring that work at all times suitably reflects the changing scope, nature
and risk profile of the business, thereby optimising the audit value-added
Ensuring that the scope, approach and methodology of each audit are fully
reflective of the importance of HSBC's focus on its customers and the quality
of the operating environment necessary to support that focus
Clearly communicating issues and associated risks and identify the root cause
and the possible strategic implications
Understanding the roles and interests of the various business stakeholders as
a basis for engaging them at the right level, on the right issues and in the
appropriate context
Engaging stakeholders to obtain a deeper understanding of their business, its
requirements and the implications for audit
Building trust and credibility with stakeholders in order to objectively
engage them and where appropriate challenging their views
Demonstrating analytical thinking, sound judgement, critical analysis,
attention to detail and provide value-added advice
Presenting audit reports to management/stakeholders, evaluating the adequacy
of their action plans and monitoring its implementation
Delivering fair outcomes for our customers and ensuring own conduct maintains
the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets
Effectively communicating with all members of the audit team and senior audit
management throughout each stage of the audit from planning through to
completion
Ensuring that each member of the audit team is provided with an appropriate
platform for airing their views and suggestions
Ensuring that the members of each audit team have a full and complete
understanding of the nature and scope of the risks involved in the business
being audited
Engaging, coaching, developing and providing the necessary guidance and
support to each member of an audit team and manage their performance
throughout each stage
Exercising leadership of audit teams/groups, remaining cognisant of emerging
and horizon risks and where appropriate re-evaluating goals and objectives
Ensuring that audit information requests submitted to management and staff are
appropriate and relevant to the scope of the audit
Ensuring that audits are executed in accordance with the management and
oversight standards established within GBL INA as well as professional best
practices
Designing, planning and executing assignments that are consistent with the
nature and scope of the business, its risks and the materiality of those risks
Completing assignments efficiently and effectively with due regards to the
risks, scope, nature and materiality of each business unit
Prioritising work and the delegation of assignments in accordance with and due
regards to the nature of the business and the risks being incurred
Ensuring that audit reporting properly highlights all material risks and these
are presented to the appropriate levels of management

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of Banking products and
services knowledge
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. Banking or Financial
Services
Role relevant qualifications, i.e. Chartered Accountancy Qualification
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. Auditor within a Financial
Institution
Availability to undertake the travel required for this role, i.e. Moderate
travel within the UK and around the wider HSBC European Network, may be in
excess of 30%
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Financial Crime Compliance
is desirable but not essential
Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting your
style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered
Contributed productively to team objectives, sometimes supporting and
sometimes leading activities to achieve shared goals
A track record of making complex business decisions with authority, even in
times of ambiguity, considering the potential long term risks and implications
Supported project teams/managers, showing an understanding of the basic
principles of project management


The base location for this role is Birmingham.
