Due to continuing business success and growth we now have a fantastic opportunity available for a Technical Researcherto join our team in Coventry.

Technical Researcher Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Technical Architect, will take focus on the recently initiated M4 (Meggitt, Modular, Modifiable, Manufacturing) project with a leading IT partner and the HVM catapults. This project is researching leading edge manufacturing technologies targeted at making Meggitt's western economy factories more effective than any other location, through advanced methods and organisation. The project is looking to introduce new manufacturing techniques which are richly instrumented to provide detailed data. Simulation and modelling will be used to optimise the system. Cloud computing will be used to manage the data. Your responsibilities will also be:

- Designing and analysing of experiments for the evaluation of manufacturing systems alternative configurations and scheduling strategies.
- Defining decision making methods for manufacturing systems design and planning.
- Assessing key performance indicators (production rate, machines` utilization, products lead time) using discrete event simulation tools.
- Verifying and validating discrete event simulation models.
- Suggesting solutions for manufacturing systems configuration and scheduling strategies based on the outcomes of simulation models and optimization algorithms.
- Identifying IP opportunities for your research.
- Documenting the methods, tools, and the experiments that you and your team will develop.
- Collaborating with the manufacturing and engineering dpts of company`s factories and collect requirements.
- Working closely with HVM catapult centres and research institutes for the development of simulation models and optimization algorithms.
- Reviewing and modifying manufacturing systems data models (UML class diagrams, IBM Infosphere Data Architect).
- Coding ancillary support (Java, C++, R, Python, Matlab) for the connection of simulation models with SQL databases.
- Modification of discrete event simulation models.
- Supporting with reporting on the technical progress to the R&T Board.
- Preparing reports and presentations for the project`s periodic review meetings.
- Identifying & assessing risk and define mitigation plans.
- Managing WP`s budget and schedule in collaboration with the Programme Manager.

The ideal Technical Researcher:

To be successful for this Technical Researcher position, you will possess a Master`s Degree in Software, System, Electronics or Operations Research. Alongside a track record of successfully working as a Technical Specialist, either in research or in industry, on complex and technically led projects in a matrix environment. You will also possess:

- Demonstrated capability in developing discrete-event simulations using Siemens-Plant Simulation, Lanner-Witness, Rockwell-Arena as preferred examples.
- Demonstrated capability in development of optimization algorithms.
- Demonstrated capability in integrating discrete-event simulation models with SQL database.
- Either a strong background in systems and data analysis or in advanced manufacturing and optimisation systems or in computer science (embedded and control).
- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to influence engineers, corporate functions and public bodies.
- Ability to problem solve with effective solutions using rigorous logic and methods
