My client is an extremely reputable automotive manufacturing business in the Birmingham area and they are seeking a Senior Metrology Engineer to join their team.

Summary of Position

The primary function of the position is to take the lead role in the Metrology area, measuring the dimensions of finished products, parts, tools, gauges and machine parts.

  • Support a safe working environment, considering company procedures and current legislation
  • Operate in a manner which satisfies the requirement for confidentiality in the performance of duties
  • To provide measurement services to ensure compliance to dimensional specification of components, assemblies and prototypes at all stages of manufacture.
  • Operate and program all measuring equipment with the Metrology Area.
  • To advise on, and conceive measurement strategies and systems and evaluate their suitability for a given application.
  • To ensure all gauging, measuring and test equipment are calibrated on the calibration dates to the specified procedures and standards.
  • To produce Dimensional reports to Customer and the companies requirements.
  • To assist product launch with the completion of measurement reports product and prototypes.
  • To provide measurement support to product and process improvements, including new machine purchase approval.
  • To ensure all data, test results, certificates of conformance and reports are retained as per customer and third party requirements.
  • To evaluate product concerns and where agreed advise and assist with their resolution.
  • To undertake training and deliver when identified to support business requirements and changes in technology and quality requirements.
  • Support of internal projects.
  • Support Design and Manufacturing Functions during all stages of project development and introduction.
  • To prepare for System Audits.
  • Reporting of KPIs
  • Employee Management, absence, performance etc.
  • Further activities and responsibilities may be assigned to support the operation of the Quality Department and that of production relative to business requirements.

Senior Metrology Engineer

Core Competencies:

  • Interpretation of drawings, technical specifications, and product control documentation
  • Expertise in Spline Processes and Gauging Strategies
  • Use of gauging, measurement and test equipment
  • Knowledge of measurement and calibration standards
  • Expertise in CMM programming using CALYPSO
  • Computer literate - PC applications and Gauge Management System
  • Communication skills - written and verbal (to customer interface standard)
  • Knowledge of the company Warranty system and procedures
  • Knowledge of production processes
  • Knowledge of ISO/TS 16949
  • Knowledge of customer quality standards and requirements
  • SPC tools and methods
  • Ability to conceive measurement strategies and systems
  • Operate (and program) all measurement equipment within the Metrology Department
  • Be able to work in a team working environment
