30622 Powertrain Tribologist
Powertrain CAE provide an analysis service to Powertrain development. Powertrain Tribology currently falls under the Powertrain CAE structure. This comprises Base Engines (gasoline and diesel) and Transmissions & Driveline. A vacancy exists for a Tribologist supporting the Base Engines Team.
KEY SKILLS REQUIRED:
Proven track record in Tribology analysis, in Powertrain systems and IC engines in particular.
AVL Excite/Primo3D/Ricardo/FIRST or in-house developed Tribology and Dynamics software. Also, Finite Element software, Hypermesh/Abaqus CAE.
Proven track record in friction testing, either in laboratory or transmission/engine based tests.
Carry out Tribology analysis of base engine components.
Construct Finite Element models (only meshing) from CAD geometry.
Perform fatigue assessments using stress or strain based techniques, following a full elastohydrodynamic solution.
Analyse and assess validity of friction data experimentally obtained.
Fundamental understanding of Metrology (form and surface roughness parameters, measurements and applications).
Carry out design optimisation studies.
Report results in an accurate and concise manner both verbally and in written form.
Able to communicate effectively at all levels.
PhD in Tribology, preferred experience in IC engines Tribology.
Gear and roller bearings Tribology are also highly valued.
Experience in Tribology code development, particularly looking at the interaction of various systems (e.g., piston ring dynamics and piston secondary motion).
Experience with engine friction measurements (floating liners, engine teardowns, etc).
Experience in friction testing in laboratory conditions (reciprocating tribometers, ball/pin on disk, rheometry, Atomic Force Microscopy).
