Blue Dot Search & Selection is working on behalf of this third party logistics provider in looking to recruit a high calibre Transport Shift Manager to support operations at its flagship distribution centre in the Rugby, Warwickshire area.
This is a large, complex and fast paced distribution operation and as such demands not only first class technical and operational knowledge and experience but also extremely well developed man management skills, particularly within the fields of staff engagement and the cultivation of a well defined, positive, open and inclusive work culture.
Reporting to the Transport Operations Manager, you will assist in the management and performance of your shift and be responsible for managing a team of Transport Supervisors, Team-Leaders and Drivers.
As part of this the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the ongoing operation consistently exceeds the client’s expectations in terms of service to customers, financial goals, key performance indicators and contractual operational standards.
Key to the success of this role is the effective provision of leadership, motivation, coaching, mentoring and career development to your team, helping to ensure that operational and commercial excellence is achieved on a day-to-day basis.
Demonstrable transport management experience gained from within a similar, large, fast paced and highly pressurised distribution environment underpinned with a deep and well rounded knowledge of transport operations, rules and regulations as well as a National CPC qualification.
Having previously been responsible for the leadership and development of a high performing transport team the successful individual will hold the ability to ensure operational success via the engagement, development and motivation of their leadership team to achieve their personal goals as well as exceeding the agreed contract service levels.
An ambassador for best practice, able to monitor and assess performance via various systems and act proactively when necessary to remedy potential issues as well as being able to conduct investigations and disciplinary hearings as appropriate.
Extremely strong interpersonal skills coupled with an ability to establish effective communication channels and working relationships with employees, customer contacts and external suppliers are essential as is experience of influencing stakeholders and negotiating change within a unionised environment.
