A knowledgeable Senior (Ornamental) Gardener is required for a privately-owned estate, 6 miles south of Stafford.

The 13-acre estate has 6 acres of formal gardens that are open to the public through the National Garden Scheme. The formal gardens surround the main house and contain a range of different planted 'rooms’ with herbaceous/shrub borders, formal box and topiary, prairie planting, water features, sculptures and natural woodland bordered by a stream. The gardens are set within a beautiful area and have stunning vistas of the surrounding countryside.

There are plans to extend garden opening, introduce a kitchen garden and create a small nursery which grows/sells plants to the public.

Applications are invited from candidates with good all-round plant knowledge and a keen eye for detail. The successful applicant will work alongside one further full-time gardener and a part-time assistant. As Senior (Ornamental Gardener) you will assume responsibility for pruning and plant husbandry within the shrub/herbaceous borders, topiary, propagation, kitchen garden and other areas of the estate as and when required. At all times ensuring the gardens look their best.

Previous private estate gardening experience and a horticultural qualification is essential. Ideally you will possess a chemical spray certificate (PA1/PA6).

Due to the rural location of the property it is necessary for a full driving license and own vehicle to be held.

This represents an excellent opportunity for an experienced and knowledgeable gardener to work within the gardens of a beautiful estate offering future projects to excite.

Salary - circa £25000 (depending on experience)

This is a live-out position and you will therefore need to already live within the immediate area or be prepared to relocate
