We are looking for an ambitious and capable Senior Ecologist to join our Midlands team and help us deliver our existing work load and take the lead for growing our portfolio of work in the West Midlands.

Your Role

Following the acquisition of Alliance Planning in 2014, our team in Leicester have forged strong links with the planning team in Edgbaston and we are now keen to have a locally-based ecologist to improve the level of support we can provide. We have also established our own links with a number of public sector clients in the West Midlands and we are keen to give them a more efficient service by having local ecology resources to call on.

This will be the first permanent post in our new Birmingham office, however you would be fully supported by our Leicester Office, an established network of local surveyors/sub-contractors, as well as our 50+ team of nationwide ecologists. We anticipate a period of transition while you settle into the role and therefore splitting your time between Leicester and Birmingham initially would also be considered, if needed, to give you the foundation for succeeding in this role. We believe this opportunity will give the right candidate the chance to take ownership for a growing office and provide a springboard for both our future plans, as well as their own career progression.

You will get to work regularly alongside our other UK disciplines, helping to develop both your awareness of, and value to, our wider capabilities, which include Planning, Contamination, Landscape, EIA, Transport planning, as well as a range of other Environmental and Engineering services.

About You

You should be a full member of CIEEM and have an accomplished background of ecological expertise, from solid Extended Phase 1 skills to some species-specific survey techniques and experience of mitigation schemes - ideally including EPS licence applications. You should have a good understanding of UK wildlife legislation and how the Town Planning system works, so you can provide the most pragmatic and appropriate advice to each bespoke project.A Class 2 bat licence is highly desirable for this post.Bat survey and assessment skills are essential and the ability to write EcIA Chapters and/or HRA assessments would also be beneficial. You will be confident in producing high quality reports, as well as robust risk assessments & method statements to set a good example for others to follow. You will be a good project manager, with demonstrable client skills and the ability to quantify both risks and opportunities in relation to development. You must be a confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills, and possess the ability to prioritise the delivery of a dynamic workload.A relevant degree as a minimum is required, as is a full driving licence, plus good ICT skills including MS Word and Excel.About WYG
