A Development Manager is required for one of the world's leading ticket specialists. My client supplies products to instantly recognisable brands both in the UK and worldwide.

My client holds an extensive range of awards and due to the continued growth they are currently undergoing a major transformation project with the re-platforming of their core system with changes to their hosting and development techniques.

The successful Development Manager will be a key member of the Senior Management Team working to help their transformation program with establishing a fundamental change to my clients architecture and the work they work. The core focus will be working with the Director of IT in delivering and designing their new architecture stack, their core backend platform and their core CMS to deliver highly successful websites.

Part of the role will be diversifying their technology stack and ensuring their teams are equally capable in.NET and non.NET solutions. Currently their ratio of .NET to non .NET is 95%-5% which they're looking to move this to around a 65% to 35%.

Development Manager Responsibilities:

• You will be a key member of the senior IT management team.

• The role will have direct technical and lead responsibilities for the core group of developers helping deliver core platforms and will work with their core partners in the delivery of those platforms where appropriate.

• You will work closely with the Director of IT and the Project Manager to ensure agile techniques are improved and the tools to use them (probably Jira) are setup correctly and the team aware how they can benefit delivery.

• You will be a strong advocate of Agile philosophies while still maintaining a pragmatic viewpoint on delivery.

• You will make recommendations to the management team on source control, potentially moving away from TFS and moving towards GIT.

• You will act as a strategic consultant together with the Director of IT to ensure all projects (including those you are not directly involved in) maintain high standards expected from the organisation.

• A good understanding of cloud based technologies working closely with the senior management team to feed into the DevOps/CI strategy.

• This is a technological agnostic role, although a good understanding of key .NET/LAMP and database technologies will be essential as well as experience around CMS solutions (preferably Drupal/Umbraco)

• You must develop strong and effective working relationships with other teams and suppliers.

• You will ensure consistent processes are operated and improved on with your input and wisdom.

• You will be dynamic in style, pragmatic in results.

Skills of the Development Manager:

• Core skills in .NET development both backend and frontend

• Understanding of JAVA and PHP essential

• Understanding and ability in other languages/scripting platforms highly desirable preferably NodeJS, Python with good understanding of Powershell and Bash

• Good understanding of MVC and other pattern libraries

• Good experience of Database design and development

• Exposure to DB systems MSSQL/Redis/NoSQL/MongoDB/MySQL advantageous

• Good understanding of front end skills Javascript, JQuery, Angular, Typescript etc.

• Good understanding of HTML, HTML5, XHTML and CSS markup

• Good understanding of automated testing including Selenium.

• Experience CMS including Drupal (7 & 8) and Umbraco.

• Understanding of eCommerce platforms (uCommerce/Drupal Commerce)

• Good understanding of information architecture/Taxonomy categorisation.

• A good understanding of formulating multifaceted and hierarchical taxonomies.

• Ideally, someone who is equally at home on Windows or Linux based platforms.

My clients is after a creative but logical thinker that understands there are many ways to solve a problem but will try their best to keep things simple. You will need to be enthusiastic and the ability to present to influence a wide variety of audiences from technical teams to director level.

As the Development Manager you will work closely with your Development Team and third parties to proactively think of ways to help benefit and grow the business. My client aren't a precious company and will seek someone with an ability to make own decisions and act on them but humble enough to accept what they don't know and be ready to learn.
