My client school, based in Wolverhampton, is looking to recruit graduates of Maths & Physics to work as Teaching Assistants within their Maths or Science departments. The school is a larger than average secondary school with pupils aged between the 11 and 18; it has a fantastic reputation of achievement in the local catchment area and is always over-subscribed.
The successful applicants will spend the majority of their time working with GCSE pupils but there will be a requirement to work with A Level Physics classes, depending on the recruitment of further Teaching Assistants and the demands of the department. Candidates need to have studied Mathematics or Physics at undergraduate level and achieved a minimum of a 2:2 degree. Candidates with a Masters in Mathematics or Physics will be very welcome.
As a Teaching Assistant you will be there to support the class teacher in any given topic, helping students grasp theories and gain a better understanding of learning objectives. In this varying role there will be time spent working with smaller groups, who may have difficulties in a given area as well as developing gifted and talented pupils.
This really is a varied role and requires patience, understanding and a desire to get the best out of all the pupils you’re in contact with. Flexibility and hard work really is the key to becoming a successful Teaching Assistant. If you’re looking to train as a Mathematics or Physics Teacher you will be ahead of the class once you’ve completed your experience with this school.
