Tooling Engineer (Jigs & Fixtures)


£24/hour on a limited basis

6 Months Rolling Contract

Tooling Engineer required for an immediate start on a 6-month initial contract, the client is going through a busy period and have capacity for this to be a long-term position. The company design and manufacture complex vehicles and are a global industry leader.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience of working with the jigs and fixtures needed for the build of vehicles, being from an automotive, rail, transportation or similar industry. You will ideally have an engineering qualification though this is not essential and relevant experience is the most important.

Whilst you will not be required to design the fixtures themselves, you will need to have an understanding of what would work effectively in order to produce templates to present to the various suppliers. You will need to have experience in dealing with the tender processes behind the build of such equipment in order to make sure that the product is made to the highest quality and standards, in the specific timeframes and for the right cost.

You will be expected to agree a concept with those internally. This will be done by dealing with all those involved in the process, from the end users through to the final budgetary signers in order to make the concept as effective as possible. From here an order will need to be placed. This will mean obtaining 2-3 different quotes and bringing this back internally to present the best option to the company. Finally, you will be responsible for the expediting of the goods.

This will all need to be completed in a busy environment with strict safety standards. As there will be multiple projects to be worked on simultaneously and the ability to multitask work to tight deadlines is essential.

Tooling Engineer Requirements:
- Degree in an engineering discipline or relevant tooling/engineering experience
- 5+ years' experience in a relevant position
- An appreciation for tooling design
- Experience of working within a large manufacturing department
- Strong engineering/tooling background
- Previous experience of dealing with suppliers
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience of working with high-value goods
