IT Systems Administrator - Software Company
Position: Systems Administrator
Location: Birmingham, West Midlands
Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 plus Pension
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced IT Systems Administrator you join a highly innovative software company based in Birmingham.
They have been moving to the cloud in a step by step fashion but much of the infrastructure is still quite old fashioned. This cloud experience has given them enough understanding that they now want to make a fundamental change right across the business. For this to happen they need to have their own infrastructure capability rather than the current out-sourced service.
The key changes are to:
- Move email to the cloud for two businesses
- Move Office to the cloud - this is likely to be a move second to email
- Integrate their Finance and CRM systems in the cloud
- Move them to ISO 27001 compliance
They fully recognise that this work will not happen overnight and to do it they expect the journey to be at least two years.
As a small, very technical development team they can fix many issues that would normally fall to the Systems Administrator, however they will still be expecting you to deliver on the humdrum administration tasks as you also work on their major projects.
Key Experience Required
Many of the technology challenges that you face will be relatively short term, therefore you may need to grapple with some technologies in the short term that will be replaced relatively quickly.
We are looking for an experienced and innovative IT Systems Administrator that wants a real say on how the future technology environment for this company will look and function.
Due to the upcoming projects you will need to have some experience in some of the following areas:
- Office 365 / Exchange Online
- Cloud - AWS/Azure/Google
- ISO 27001 / IT Security
- VMware - ESXi - with the ability to spin up VM's at short notice
- Command Line Scripting
- Secure Sockets
Their main internal infrastructure is Windows based however the bulk of their development is on Linux so any experience in this area would be welcomed but is not a requirement as they are happy to train on this.
This is a fantastic opportunity to deliver some real technological change for this company while increasing your own technical experience and knowledge at the same time in areas such as IT Security and DevOps.
