Accountable To: Head of Design & Development.

A member of the marketing & product design team committed to the ambition of becoming the best in the industry, delivering market leading products and an inspirational experience across all brand touch points. You will work closely with the Head of Design & Development to develop and produce industry leading products.

Utopia is looking to appoint a Product Engineering Manager into its R&D team. This individual will be managing a fast-paced engineering team working to a high level of design and engineering with access to one of the country's best equipped furniture manufacturing facilities. This role requires you to be highly detailed with strong people management skills, including good organisational skills.

Utopia takes great pride in the fact that it has full control of the development cycle, from concept to productionisation, so a real passion for the product and its NPD cycle is essential.

Role Description.

- Management of core development streams NPD, EPD & Contract development
- Planning and structuring New Product Development through the business, NPD
- Identifying areas of value added engineering and problem solving, EPD
- Development of products for the new build contract industry, Contracts
- Problem solving at all levels of development and product testing and implementation
- Project planning and time management of the development process which encompass the responsibilities of other departments throughout the business
- Working directly to brief from concept to production including all engineering and technical developments.
- Working cross-functionally with purchasing team in the sourcing of products, from new and existing suppliers
- Cross functionally manage the implementation of new CAD to CAM and data management systems
- Managing the development process of products in conjunction with other departments
- Managing and allocating team resources appropriately to facilitate a fast passed and robust development process
- Strong transparent communication both internally and externally, chairing regular status reviews
- Implementation and enforcement of product standards and QC testing
- Creation of concept visuals, presentations and prototyping
- Creating data management process and distribution systems for all CAD and product data into a fully documented database

Key Responsibilities.

- Generating project specific critical paths and appropriating resource to ensure timely fulfilment
- Chairing regular project meetings and maintaining project time lines, Working to strict deadlines
- Determine effective and appropriate construction methods.
- Compiling data to support or oppose project / product viability
- Able to evaluate ideas of others
- Continues product and process improvement
- Direct communication and support of customer team
- Keeping up to date with latest technology and trends
- Presenting products and solutions to senior leadership team
- Continues enhancement of internal documentation, systems and processes
- Coordinate product testing, including evaluating and communicating results
- Management of product data sheets and specifications for all manufactured and factored products
- Coordinating other departments within the business
- Managing workloads of directly reporting staff
- Regular 1 2 1 with directly reporting staff

Knowledge & Experience

- Knowledge and experience of Soildworks, AUTO CAD and iMoss
- Be used to working in cross functional fast paced team to deliver projects
- Experience managing multi-disciplined team
- A willingness to build and maintain positive working relationships within the business
- Positive determination and enthusiastic approach
- Ensure the successful launch of products
- Good visual and spatial awareness
- Microsoft Office Packages PROJECT, EXCEL, WORD, OUTLOOK
- A willingness to take ownership of the process and execute with excellence
- Knowledge and experience of 2D CAD
- Desk top publishing
- Project planning such as Microsoft Project
- Long and short term Project Management

Qualifications & experience required:

You will have an engineering qualification equivalent to degree level

Will have experience at managerial level within a British furniture manufacturer. A good understanding of Windows based systems including 3D CAD development ideally SolidWorks.
