Role: Trade and Forecasting Analyst (retail energy)
Location: Birmingham
Salary: Up to £30k

Are you an experienced Analyst who has worked in a Trading / Forecasting function for a retail energy supplier? An established energy supplier based in Birmingham is looking for a Trade and Forecast Analyst who will assist with the company’s forecasting process in terms of sales, revenues and to help understand how these forecasts will be affected by Government or Market initiatives. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the energy purchasing activities of the company, amounting to £40-£50m pa
  • Monitoring wholesale energy markets and forecasting wholesale energy costs
  • Maintaining counterparty relationships
  • Monitoring credit cover requirements with industry groups and service providers
  • Maintaining and developing complex models to support these requirements
  • Forecasting the company’s revenues and external costs (including network, government policy and metering costs)
  • Analysing how these forecasts will move in line with potential market changes
  • Calculating future price caps under different scenarios
  • Submitting company data to regulatory and government bodies
  • Analysing E’s exposure to risk under differing market conditions

Skills and Experience:

  • A good understanding of gas and electricity forecasting processes and factors affecting customer demand; or the ability to learn
  • Knowledge of the gas and electricity traded markets
  • Sound commercial judgment and an ability to identify commercial opportunities
  • Graduate or equivalent standard in maths, engineering or other analytical disciplines
  • Highly motivated, diligent and with an excellent eye for detail
  • Analytical with good Excel (including VBA skills)
