Location: Coventry, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, West Midlands

Salary: 33k Circa + 7.5% Pension

THE CLIENT: A Major manufacturer within the food sector


Leading the Quality Technical team to drive improvements in process; Operator behaviour and organisational culture that strengthens the ability of the Operations team to consistently deliver a safe product that meets specifications within the defined quality target range. Having a clear sense of direction, gravitas and management ability the postholder will ensure quality and food safety are at the centre of product related decisions; that the products consistently meet both internal and external requirements

Main duties and responsibilities:

1. You will initiate, champion and lead quality improvement initiatives. You will be responsible for ensuring that all managers and process owners/supervisors develop and maintain their part of the quality & food safety management system
2. To manage the Quality Technologists in line with Company policy, deploying excellent leadership skills to develop, drive and monitor performance that delivers stretching departmental targets, objectives and contributes to continuous improvement.
3. Develop the Quality Technologist team ensuring ownership of tasks and establishing a pre-emptive culture that drives sustainable improvement in product quality and food safety, as well as positively changing departmental perception within the business.
4. Working with a Continuous Improvement mindset the postholder will recommend quality goals, targets and standards that challenge current standards and Ways of Working
5. Apply strong leadership skills to ensure the team are structured appropriately and are able to:
• Advise and coach managers and Operators alike on quality standards and improvement ideas
• Produce clear KPI's that are fit for purpose, accurate, up to date and provide information to inform decisions
• Have a full audit process and timetable that not only highlights non-conformances on food safety, quality and legality but also drives the required changes, solves root case and safeguards against future non-conformances
6. Bring together staff of different disciplines and driving the group to formulate and agree (as appropriate)
• Comprehensive quality procedures (leading on)
• Procedural changes (leading on)
• Long term strategy for culture change (supporting Technical Manager on)
7. Monitor Company performance on quality by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports as and when required; making suggestions for changes and improvements and recommendations on implementation, working with all relevant departments
8. Making recommendations on quality related training needs and changes required due to legislative amendments or customer demands
9. Completing internal/supplier Audits where required and training others on audit completion
10. Significant involvement in retailer and 3rd party audits ensuring that all standards are achieved and closing out non conformances where required.
11. Devising and/or amending the company's quality procedures, standards and specifications and setting up and maintaining controls and documentation procedures;


Can demonstrate sufficient training in food safety related courses (eg HACCP, Internal Auditing, Food Hygiene / Food Safety)
Preferably a BTEC / HNC or above in food science or related discipline
Minimum of 3 years working within Quality management within the Food Industry
Solid experience engaging and working alongside production management in a quality related role
Conducting internal audits
Participated in retailer or 3rd party audits
Can demonstrate management, development and coaching skills through previous experience.
Excellent team work, communication and negotiating skills
Good planning and organisation skills
Effective at problem solving, making judgements, trouble shooting and decision making
Able to challenge in a correct and appropriate manner
Demonstrates initiative and drive to change
High level of integrity and good objective decision making skills
