Reporting to the board you will be the head of Human Resources function across this well established and previously traditional business, over the last year they have accelerated their own development and progress and following retirements they have made a series of appointments that are bringing in fresh thinking change agents, a critical action in this shift is the creation of a HR Manager's role.

The role will be challenging both in terms of the volume and scale of work but also demonstrating the benefit of having this head of function; whereby a small team exists but currently is used to process the paperwork the opportunity is now to make HR into a real asset to the business, not just repository for holiday requests and sick pay claims!

There will be objections to overcome, custom & practice to identify and rectify, there will be those that don't need or want help, but there will also be people who suspect they're doing it the wrong way but need help, guidance and support to do it the right way. You will quickly build up allies and grateful supporters who will bring momentum and credibility to what you are doing, allowing the others to see the benefits you're bringing.

Ideally you will be en route or have achieved MCIPD status, however relevant experience will count too, you will be happy and comfortable operating from shopfloor to board level recognising the value all levels bring to the organisation. Academically a degree would also be a good indicator of your capability, but other achievements demonstrate that too.

This is a role for someone who is organisationally strong; capable of setting the agenda and creating an identifiable "brand" for the HR team; coordinate all admin from payroll to "right to work"; building alliances to win converts to the philosophy that HR is a benefit and ally to their goals; in short someone who can work across the organisation to persuade and share the benefits of a strong & effective HR team.

The succesful candidate will have managed a small HR function or been deputy and effected a number of cultural advancements displaying their ability. You will have had experience managing a team either for a number of specific projects or on an ongoing basis and now be looking to step into the head of function role with all the responsibility that holds.
