Technical Manager - Abattoir

Based: Shropshire / North Wales

Basic Salary Circa: GBP40,000 - GBP50,000 + Package

My client are a meat processing specialist who are leading the field in the categories they operate in. As part of a highly impressive and well respected food group, they have developed a reputation for quality, efficiency and innovation which are essential in making sure that they deliver exactly what their customers need. With industry-leading expertise and cutting edge facilities, they are looking to maintain their position as a leading supplier of fresh and frozen meat and meat-free products.

As part of their growth aspirations, they are looking for a talented Technical Manager with responsibility for their abattoir and boning hall facilities.

The Role:

  • Reporting into the Site Technical Manager, you will be responsible for delivering results in the Technical team by managing all aspects of quality and food safety ensuring complete compliance with food legislation and regulations.
  • Drive the quality and efficiency in line with company strategy and deputising for the Site Technical Manager in his absence.
  • You will be responsible for a team of 7, including a supervisor, although this is due to increase in the coming weeks.
  • Ensure your team is well-structured, motivated and highly-skilled and be proactive in training and developing your team where skill gaps are identified or where processes change.
  • Work cross-functionally to liaise effectively with the Senior Technical team as well as the NPD and Commercial functions for product management throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Manage your team in alignment with; legal, food safety, customer, company and other best practice requirements to create, maintain and improve the integrity, food safety and quality of all products manufactured.

The Requirements:

  • External BRC auditor and audit experience and capacity to lead a third party audit.
  • A minimum of 3 years Technical Management experience, ideally with a background in meat.
  • Experience of an abattoir or boning hall would be a distant advantage.
  • Excellent working knowledge of HACCP, quality systems and food safety.
  • A proven track record of the ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams with strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Time flexibility and organisational skills as well as strong attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm and determination combined with a very pragmatic approach to your work are essential traits for this person.
