Our client is a leading research and development company specialising in the design of bespoke manufacturing systems for a broad range of high technology businesses across the world.

Developing some of the most advanced manufacturing equipment in the world, our client employs experts in their field. As part of its on going plans to develop and expand, we are seeking a Senior Research Engineer who specialises in Additive Manufacturing to join their dedicated team of experts.

Description

The Component Technology group is a vibrant and rapidly growing area of research, which has the potential to revolutionise the way that parts are designed and manufactured, across a wide range of industrial sectors. Component Technology encompasses three themes, namely, Net Shape & Additive Manufacturing (NS&AM), High Integrity Fabrication (HIF) and Non-Conventional Machining (NCM).

Job purpose

This role will include leading a technology area research group (typically four to six engineers) to develop additive technologies and processes through the Manufacturing Capability Readiness Levels (MCRLs) 4- 6. This role will include management of research staff, as well as project management and some aspects of budgetary control. You will also have responsibility for promoting the activities of the group and will liaise with the Business Development Manager and Industrial Partnership Managers to ensure this is undertaken effectively.

Duties and responsibilities:

Technical leadership of innovative research projects

Development of research proposals for single client and collaborative R&D projects

Support the technology Manager with organising resources (people and equipment) needed to deliver the research projects

Mentor and support RE's EngD's and graduates within the Technology area

Assist Technology Manager with the development of technology roadmaps

Identify and pursue new opportunities for exploitation of research

Pro-actively engage with academia through CT, to develop mutually beneficial relationships

Delivery of single Technology area projects (time/ cost/ quality)

Work pro-actively with the GTM and other TLs to develop research ideas and market offerings across the full scope of capability

Work effectively with all colleagues within the business, the Research Partners, the Industrial Members and the wider client base.

Engage in training programmes consistent with your needs and aspirations and those of the business.

Carry out specific duties as may be reasonably requested by your line manager and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.

Education

* An excellent educational profile up to and including a Masters in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace engineering or Materials based degrees.

* Relevant PhD

Experience

* Expertise in the key aspects of one or more Additive processes
* Recent experience of successfully managing complex multi partner projects in the high value manufacturing sector
* Experience of having produced and reviewed technical reports and / or guidance materials on engineering or science topics
* Recent experience of effective management of personnel
* Experience of writing and winning research proposals.

* Background in Engineering or Material Science.
* Track record of securing research funding from both industrial clients and government sources.
