ELG Carbon Fibre Limited (ELGCF) is a wholly owned UK subsidiary of ELG Haniel Group, headquartered in Duisburg, Germany. ELG is one of the world`s leading specialists in handling and recycling high-value raw materials for the stainless steel, superalloys and carbon fibre industries.

The goal of ELGCF is to facilitate the use of carbon fibre in emerging, high volume applications, by converting manufacturing waste and end-of-life components into cost effective, carbon fibre structural materials for the plastic compounding and composites industries.

We make no secret of our global expansion plans which include the launch of additional overseas facilities and with this in mind, we are looking for an experienced Composite Technician to join our committed team.

Laboratory Technician

General Description / Purpose of Role:

The purpose of this role is to undertake manufacturing of samples and testing required to support QC activities, product development projects and engineering improvement projects, whilst maintaining the manufacturing and testing standards required by the company.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Manufacturing composites using materials produced by the company.
- Ensuring manufacturing operations are carried out in accordance with all statutory and company requirements with regard to health and safety and the environment.
- Ensuring laboratory operations are carried out in accordance with all statutory and company requirements with regard to health and safety and the environment.
- Carrying out QC testing as required by product specifications.
- Issuing test certificates as required by product specifications and/or customer requirements.
- Carrying out product testing in support of product development or process engineering projects.
- Managing laboratory consumables inventory and usage.
- Assisting with the assessment of new test standards and test equipment.
- Participation in customer audits.

Occasional travel within UK may be required.

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

- Engineering or science based degree.

Minimum Previous Experience:

- Proven experience in a similar role within the textile or composites industry, with either a materials manufacturer or end-user.

Minimum Additional Training:

Knowledge or experience in one or more of these areas would be useful in this role:

- A good understanding of the role of carbon fibre composites in high volume and/or high value end-use markets.
- Textile processing methods & terminology
- Compounding of polymers for moulding applications
- Composite processing methods

Minimum Required Skills:

- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work well with colleagues, customers and external collaborators.
- Excellent team working skills. A hands-on team player with the ability to work within cross-functional teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills-ability to provide clear and concise reports as required.
- Good organizational skills.
- Autonomous, rigorous and methodical approach to the collection and collation of data.
