Trainee Forensic Psychologist
Serco is a FTSE 250 international service company which combines commercial know-how with a deep public service ethos. We improve services by managing people, processes, technology and assets more effectively. We advise policy makers, design innovative solutions, integrate systems and - most of all - deliver to the public. Serco supports governments, agencies and companies who seek a trusted partner with a solid track-record of providing assured service excellence. Our people offer operational, management and consulting expertise in the aerospace, defence, education, health, justice and immigration, local government, science, technology, transport and the commercial sectors.
We are looking for dedicated and passionate people to work as Forensic Psychologists in Training at HMP Dovegate.
HMP Dovegate is a Category B training prison based near Uttoxeter in Staffordshire and is one of many contracts run by Serco a FTSE 250 international service company.
We are in the unique position of not only having a large Category B population, with designated wings for remand, drug intervention and vulnerable prisoners but also a separate 200-bed Therapeutic Prison, split into six Therapeutic Communities (TCs). This is the only privately-run TC in the UK; a purpose-built therapeutic facility, offering its residents daily group therapy and has psychological staff on the clinical teams of all six TCs.
We are now actively looking to recruit Stage 2 Forensic Psychologists in Training into our skilled and supportive Psychology team. This role would give you the opportunity to employ and develop a range of clinical skills along with the chance to further develop the role of Psychological Services within the establishment as a whole. We will support and actively encourage your progression through Stage 2 of the Qualification in Forensic Psychology.
The work of Psychological Services includes assessment and intervention delivered individually, on the TC and in accredited Offending Behaviour group work (Thinking Skills Programme, RESOLVE, Building Better Relationships and Self Change Programme), in addition to non-accredited group interventions. We are actively involved in research at the prison, training staff and consultancy where psychology work can assist in decision-making throughout the prison. This has included self-harm and suicidal ideation, violence reduction, personality disorder and behavioural management.
As the successful candidate you will have completed Stage 1 of the Qualification in Forensic Psychology. Ideally you will have previous experience of working with offenders and carrying out assessments and interventions along with knowledge of psychological theory regarding assessment and intervention with offenders.
It is essential that you have the following skills;
- Administration, scoring and interpretation of psychological assessments such as WAIS, HCR-20, VRS.
Experience in delivery and management of accredited offending behaviour programmes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Able to work collaboratively with offenders.
Experienced and skilled in working in a multi-disciplinary way.
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office.
The salary for this position is £26010 per annum.
On occasion we receive significantly more applicants than expected for some vacancies and under such circumstances we reserve the right to bring forward the closing date of the advertisement. We therefore strongly advise you to apply for the role promptly to avoid disappointment should the closing date be brought forward. Serco is committed to equal opportunities and requests any potential applicant to contact the Serco Recruitment Team on 0345 010 4000 as soon as possible if an applicant has any additional queries, requirements or will need additional time in submitting an application should the closing date of the advertisement be brought forward.
