Orbit have an exciting opportunity for an accomplished, design orientated and influential housing professional to lead on a pivotal new role as their first Head of Design Standards.

Detailed Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Asset Management you will be accountable for developing an Orbit Group-wide approach to Design and Standards; working in a consultative manner always looking to 'co-design' solutions whilst establishing both service propositions and residential standards that will drive customer satisfaction; the creation of a sustainable portfolio and maintain affordability and investability.

Using simple to understand / jargon free documentation to ensure that standardised and sustainable products are repetitively put on site whenever possible you will enable the maximum opportunity for savings via procurement colleagues; ensuring that at all times the entire Orbit business understands the 'why' as well as the 'what'.

Working with Property Services, you will be analysing maintenance spend and identifying changes to standards and specifications that can improve both customer experience and the Orbit bottom line-potentially developing and implementing a differentiated service proposition that optimises cost; customer satisfaction and capital programme investment needs.

Working with Orit Homes Development teams and Property Services you will excel in:

  • Understanding emerging trends and opportunities in new build (especially modular and off site) retrofit / refurbishment industries that will add value to both our portfolio and to our customers and reduce construction / programme costs to optimum levels.
  • Research; develop and business case the prototype of solutions to identify performance gaps; e.g. in energy performance; acoustic performance, health and safety performance.
  • Identify new funding opportunities and secure grants to develop sustainable housing.

Candidate's Profile

The successful candidate will have a proven technical background (surveyor, design, architect, development) ideally within a private residential developer, main contractor, private investment organisation or another closely related sector to Orbit.
