Our Client is a leading worldwide Engineering company that are seeking a Commisioning Engineer who can in part, design and commission variable speed drives and other automation equipment such as PLC Controls that drive Large AC and DC motors and special purpose equipment in various locations across the UK. The Drives & COntrols Engineer would ideally have knowledge of programming Siemens S7 and Mitsubishi PLC Control equipment. If you are currently working in the large AC/DC Rotating equipment industry and have a knowledge of the automation PLC controls that run them, then you are the person for the role.

The Commisioning Engineer will be required to:

  • Attend customer’s sites for the diagnostics and repairs of customer’s equipment, electrical, electronic and mechanical.

  • Attend customer’s sites for the maintenance, installation, service and commission of variable speed drives and other automation equipment, PLC and Controls.

  • Selecting, programming and operating AC and DC type motor drives for new installations.

  • Carry out training to suit customer and job requirements.

  • Complete risk assessments and method statements prior to undertaking activities.

  • Working overtime to suit customer needs which may involve unsociable hours.

  • Participate in the branch out of hour’s call-out rota.

  • Ensuring company policies and procedures are followed.

  • Working to set procedures and ISO9001, 14000 & 18001 targets.

  • Ensure you adhere to Health and Safety responsibilities at all times, including following all appropriate procedures and using the appropriate protective equipment.

  • Ensure that risks and hazards in activities undertaken in the role are acknowledged and conducted in accordance with processes, procedure and measures in place to mitigate risks.

  • Be familiar with environmental aspects of activities undertaken in the role and the procedures and processes underpinning.

  • Ensure that the work area is kept clean and tidy in accordance with company initiatives such as LEAN and in accordance with health and safety requirements.

  • Any other duties commensurate with your skills, knowledge and experience.


  • A time served Electrical / Electronic Engineer preferably with Mechanical experience
  • 17th/18th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
  • A sound knowledge of VSD Drives & controls
  • Fault finding in an industrial environment
  • Install and program VSD’s
  • Knowledge of PLC equipment
  • Read machine electrical drawings
  • Offshore MIST & BIOSET qualification in addition to above where appropriate.

  • Siemens S7 & Mitsubishi PLC

  • Knowledge of rotating machines would be an advantage


The successful candidate will have served in an Electrical/Electronic background preferably with Mechanical Experience. A sound knowledge of drives and controls equipment, motors and fault finding in an industrial background would be a distinct advantage.
