The good news is that our continued success and business growth has opened up a number of exciting opportunities for an experienced, enthusiastic and proactive L&D Officer on a fixed term basis to join our successful Screwfix contract at our three locations operated across Staffordshire; Stafford, Trentham (Stoke on Trent) and Lichfield.

Screwfix (part of the Kingfisher group) have over 500 Trade Counters as well as a full ecommerce next day service. We operate over 2m sq ft of warehousing and have 2,500 colleagues and 350 trailers dedicated to the contract. Fulfilling multi-channel solutions designed around the customer experience, the growth of the Screwfix business has been 14% year on year.

The contract is responsible for both the replenishment of over 3million units per week to 500+ Screwfix Trade Counters across the UK (from the Stafford distribution centre), and also the direct fulfilment for over 110,000 parcels per week despatched via parcel carrier networks for both Screwfix and B&Q (from the Trentham fulfilment centre).

The role will also have the exciting opportunity to support at our new site due to open November 2017 in Lichfield (Fradley Park). This site will support the existing Stafford operation to provide seamless replenishment of over 3 million units per week to the Trade Counter retail network.

Role Description
  • This appointment reports to the Contract HR Manager, working closely with the site HR and operational teams.

  • The role can be based at either the Stafford or Trentham sites, there will be the requirement for travel between the campus where necessary

  • Delivery and design of overall learning and development strategy, with particular focus on creating a long term solution for utilisation apprenticeships

  • Opportunity to support and design the delivery of management development for the new Lichfield DC.

  • Develop and shape the apprenticeship strategy to meet the needs of the contract and develop the apprentice pipeline

  • Work closely with the apprentice providers to engage learners, arrange training and oversee the onsite co-ordination of the end to end process

  • Identify opportunities to maximise use of the apprenticeship levy and ensure effective spending

  • Work with the communication manager to promote the scheme across the contract, ensuring engagement of colleagues at all levels.

  • Engage with central training and development to engage with appropriate apprenticeship providers

  • Support the site HR teams with the delivery of succession and performance management processes, creating performance development plans for high potential employees

  • Identify and establish additional learning and development requirements across the contract,

Person Specification
  • Ideally experience of working in a learning and development function or evidence of exposure to significant L&D planning and delivery

  • Experience of team collaboration but with the ability to work independently and with initiative

  • Demonstrate the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders at different levels in the business

  • Experience of design/delivery of training and development programs, applicable to different areas in the business, including management development.

  • A strong understanding of apprenticeship programs, ideally experience of designing programs and liaising with external providers

  • Strong organisation skills with the tenacity to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Demonstrates a high degree of verbal, numerical and analytical ability.

  • Good communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact with staff at all levels.

  • Committed to providing a high quality and efficient service to support the operation with the ability to align HR to operational requirements.

  • Experience in a distribution or similar environment would be desirable but not essential

  • Flexible in terms of hours of work and travel where required for the role.
