Consultant Ecologist - Birmingham
My client, an award-winning professional services organisation, are looking to recruit a talented Consultant Ecologist to join the team in Birmingham. This business work closely with their clients on complex and challenging projects, ensuring that all services are underpinned with technical excellence. Providing a vast range of environmental and engineering services in sectors including commercial, education, energy and waste, rail, transport and residential, this organisation work on varied projects on a global scale.
Applying for the position of Consultant Ecologist, you will be highly motivated, confident and ambitious. You will have a degree in an environmental or ecological discipline and ideally a post graduate qualification such as a Masters. You will have a minimum of four years' experience working within the ecological consultancy sector and will be a member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or eligible for membership.
You will be confident carrying out a range of field work, such as Phase 1 Habitat Surveys and Protected Species Surveys and will be able to organise and lead such surveys. You will have excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to produce high quality tenders and reports, such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals. You will also hold at least one Protected Species Licence, ideally a GCN or bat licence. Strong botanical skills and good knowledge of the planning process are also desirable for this position.
Working as a Consultant Ecologist, you will undertake a variety of field work including Protected Species Surveys, Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, Protected Species scoping and reporting. You will work alongside colleagues from a range of professions within the team, including landscape architects and arboricultural consultants on a variety of challenging projects. You will be required to liaise with clients, maintaining excellent working relationships and identifying follow-up work.
Your role will also involve producing written reports and documents to the highest possible standards, including Ecological Impact Assessments and Ecological Appraisals. You will be involved with mitigation work and EPS licencing as well as project management. All work will be carried out with the client in mind, providing them with support throughout the planning and licensing process.
