We have a great opportunity to join a Project and Application team based in the central Midlands area, which are responsible for the design and development of niche and specialist automotive components for the performance car sectors.

The main focus of the role will be to design and develop components, bill of materials and working with and updating the organisations PDM database.

The design remit will be mainly biased towards the redesign of standard products for the application of the use in performance vehicles, out of the existing product portfolio in line with the customers' needs and specifications.

The creation, review and managing of assembly and component design - FMEA's, support PFMEA's and identify and specify critical and significant characteristics in agreement with internal Application and Manufacturing Engineers and Customers.

Create the documentation of the design process, calculation results and insert this documentation in the data management system

Specify in detail required drawings, create, manipulate and maintain 3D CAD models and drawings for production level designs, assembly and manufacturing requirements, as well as concept, prototype and general design studies.

Understanding and use of GD&T required

Optimizing of products, parts and analysing of reports and documentation

Manage and set up calculations on life circle, firmness, abrasion, weight, tolerances balance point, torsional stiffness, mass inertia, etc.

Carry out activities to reduce internal and external costs e.g. VA/VE and manufacturing process changes.

Support of Manufacturing, Quality and Account on design issues

Experience Required

- A formal qualification in Mechanical or Design Engineering HNC / HND / Degree
- Strong 3D CAD Skills
- At least 2 years direct design and development experience of designing mechanical automotive components.
- A good understanding of manufacturing and application engineering
- Good general mechanical engineering principle knowledge
