Residential Support Worker for children with Autism and Challenging behaviour.

Our client are a specialist school for children from the ages of 8 to 19, are currently seeking support workers to assist children with Autism and learning disabilities in a residential school situated in the stunning countryside of Hereford.

The school provides locally based specialist education, care and community support for the most complex, vulnerable and hard to place young people and adults. Their services work with people with autism, mild to severe learning difficulties, mental health and challenging behaviour and are shaped to meet the changing needs of people as they move from childhood to adulthood and beyond.

The school has a strong behaviour management approach which underpins a student's self-esteem and ability to engage in Society, work with peers and engage with their Community.

  • Students are provided with boundaries which enables them to engage in learning and manage their own behaviours without becoming isolated from their peers.
  • The school is skilled in dealing with young people with challenging behavioural needs who have similar needs/anxieties. The School is effective at managing these needs and allowing students to engage in learning and activities

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced support workers to work along side the Teachers and learning mentors at the school to assist the children with their learning, managing behaviour and life skills.

Part of your role will be to engage with the children to ensure they get the most out of learning experience and are able to manage their anxiety and behaviours in a classroom environment. You will take part in out of school activities such as trips and build strong relationships with families and Teachers.

The school also caters for children who stay as a residential placement, each child has their own bedroom and support staff on hand 24 hours a day.

The home runs on a shift pattern of 7:30am-3pm and 3pm-10pm, they also offer waking night positions.

Staff who are driving to and from the school are paid a daily mileage based on the tound trip:

  • Over 20 mile round trip: GBP3.00 mileage
  • 41-50 mile round trip: mileage paid at GBP15 per day

All candidates must be able to succesfully manage challenging behaviour and will be provided withthe relevant training to assist with this. All succesfull applicants will be subject to an enhanced criminal records check and 3 years satisfactory references.
