We have an amazing opportunity for an International Logistics & Customs Manager to join the Supply Chain.

Job Purpose:

•To manage and develop the International Logistics Supply Chain to deliver the business strategic and operational objectives.

•To negotiate and manage the contracts, performance and relationships with 3rd party Logistics providers and shipping freight partners.

•To provide Logistics and Customs expertise and guidance to deliver the strategic off shore sourcing plan for the group.

•To advise the business and generate plans to mitigate the risks and take opportunities from Brexit and other geo political and legislative change.

•To ensure the business is constantly compliant with all HMRC processes and any changes to legislation are implemented throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities


•Negotiate rates for Container Shipping, Haulage and Air Freight to deliver the best possible cost and service balance for Halfords.

•Review and manage performance on a regular basis.

•Provide regular and accurate forecasts for freight requirements, delivering flexibility to manage volatility.

•Keep up to date with developments in the market through regular meetings with potential suppliers.

•Provide clear planning and guidance to maintain on time delivery of Halfords cargo during vendor shut downs, peak trading, weather disruption or other situations of disruption.

International Logistics

•Negotiate rates for International Logistics Services to deliver the best possible cost and service balance (Sea, Air, Land).

•Review performance of service providers and ensure monthly KPI’s are met.

•In conjunction with business stakeholders, create development plans for discussion, trial and implementation that will deliver cost and service benefits to the business.

•Work with direct import suppliers to implement developments that will deliver value to the business.

•Lead planning for international holidays and shut downs to manage Supply chain flow (E.g. Chinese New Year).


•Hold regular review meetings with Halfords nominated Customs Officer to ensure process compliance and discussion of any proposals that will have an impact on HMRC.

•Conduct monthly audits of Halfords bonded warehouse activities and import processes to be completed with service providers to ensure compliance with HMRC legislation.

•Responsible for monthly trade statistics being accurately reported in line with HMRC timescales.

•Conduct audit and review process for classification of all off shore sourced products to ensure the correct rate of import duty is being paid.

•Update the Halfords Import Processes Manual as required ensuring processes are clearly documented for review by HMRC or company Auditors.

•Work towards and obtain Authorised Economic Operator status for the group

•Produce an Audit report of factory processes where preferential duty rates are relevant to ensure any risk of duty challenge from HMRC is mitigated.

•Ensure that all Duty related work complies with the overarching Group Tax Policy as monitored by the Group Tax Manager

•Ensure attendance at regular monthly Tax team meetings.

•Attend relevant trade body forums to remain up to date on requirements and opportunities.


•Lead and develop the Imports Operations Manager through effective coaching and development.

•Hold regular team meetings across all internal and external stakeholders to ensure clear and communicated targets.

•Influence all stakeholders to deliver operational requirements and support Supply chain continuous improvement.
