LM Overview

Two of Europe's most prominent and innovative engineering and construction companies - Laing O'Rourke and Murphy - have come together to form LM, a powerful joint venture, supporting the growing number of major transport infrastructure projects across the UK.

Both organisations are market leaders in high-speed rail delivery, tunnelling, bridge construction, civil engineering, offsite manufacturing and digital engineering.

LM, along with Fusion JV and CS JV, have been awarded the enabling works for High Speed Two. Delivering the essential early works will include archaeology, site clearance and setting up construction compounds - ahead of the start of the main civil engineering work.

The £900 million enabling works contracts cover the whole of Phase One, from London to Birmingham and the connection to the West Coast Main line at Handsacre in Staffordshire

Main purpose of role:

To support the Utilities Manager in providing technical information, interfaces and support to supervisors, managers and sub-contractors ensuring that the works are addressed in accordance with the design data (drawings, specifications, standards). To liaise closely with key functions including HS&W, procurement, commercial and engineering to enable delivery in line with LM requirements and HS2 KPIs.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Role Specific:

- Undertaking responsibilities of the Buried Services Coordinator
- Providing all asset known registers and up to date drawings of all services
- Ensuring all trial hole records are available to the project managers and subcontractors
- Implementation and involvement in the auditing of the Quality Assurance systems
- Production of quality assurance information regarding utilities for inclusion in the construction records
- Development of ITPs for utilities, ensuring they correctly interpret the specified quality requirements
- Review and approval of all associated risk assessments and method statements regarding utility works - for both internally delivered works and those of sub-contractors
- Monitoring of environmental systems in order to comply with statutory regulations and satisfy company procedures.
- Marking up drawings and specifications with any changes, referencing the documentation that verifies the change.
- Carrying out as-built surveys for a section of the works and presentation of results in a format that can be incorporated into project records and reporting
- Interpret and abstract construction information from the drawings and specifications and provides this to sub-contractors and direct work supervisors/operatives in a clear and understandable format.
- Value engineering to determine the best solution for engineering issues where possible
- Keep daily records of works on site, meetings, interfaces, and conversations with all stakeholders
- Report all incidents or near misses to line manager immediately
- Responsible for issuing daily work permits, especially 'permit to dig` and maintain records/registers.
- Co-ordination and collaboration with HS2 staff and contractors alike.
