PURPOSE OF JOB

Provide operational support within the housing options service to ensure that the Council’s statutory duty under the Housing Act 1996 Part 7, as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002, is met.

Provide high quality information, advice, guidance and assistance to individuals with a housing need.

To prevent homelessness wherever possible and practicable.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide a 'face to face’ service to customers with a housing need.

To prevent Homelessness and ensure customers who require housing advice receive a high quality service.

Work in partnership with other statutory and non statutory agencies, attending meetings where required.

Assess individuals housing needs, providing housing advice and information and where there is need for social housing, assist the customer to access this provision.

Undertake casework managing a workload and ensuring customers receive a high quality service.

Review casework, making line management aware of cases requiring more comprehensive work to prevent homelessness or when someone is ether homeless or threatened with it.

Assist customers with information and support regarding Welfare Benefits, housing rights, legal options, resettlement issues and housing options.

Take action on individual cases to prevent homelessness including home visits, assisting other members of the housing options team with this.

Take appropriate action to deal with all enquiries and complaints

Maintain and update records and systems, both manual and computer based.

Assist with the preparation of reports, correspondence, returns, financial information etc as required.

Comply with the requirements for Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults.

Participate in team meetings.

Comply with the Council’s standing orders, financial regulations and departmental instructions.

Participate in the introduction, maintenance and development of new systems, practices and procedures, including computer based, aimed at securing improvements in service delivery.
