Long Term Contract - 6 Month Contract +

My client provides bespoke design and manufacturing solutions to the Automotive sector. With 10 years of constant growth behind them, and an impressive pipeline of future business secured with major OEM's, my client is looking to add some experienced contract resource into their team to enable them to continue meeting their customer needs and expectations. You will be involved in large projects to deliver bespoke solutions, meeting the client's needs internationally.

Working as a member of a complex multidisciplinary teams you will take ownership of the design and development of new concepts, taking them all the way through to mass manufacturing.

Day to day responsibilities will include;

- Reporting into a Lead Engineer, and working as part of a multi-discipline team of Engineers (Design, Tooling, Process, Validation & Program Management), you will be assigned a portion of a cockpit / console such as a door columns, and tasked with developing this to meet the new client spec.

- Working through various processes including GD&T, DFM, DFA, CAE, FEA, CAD, FMEA & DVP&R, VAVE

- Involved in the production off cost estimates in relation to design changes, and ensuring that the most cost effective solution is recommended to the client.

- Producing BOM's.

- You will not be involved in any CAD work yourself, however a level of CAD understanding would be advantages to enable you to interrogate designs, and explain proposed designs to client in the absence of a Design Engineer.

- You will be working to tight deadline, and will need to skilfully co-ordinate the team, and other suppliers as designated by the client. You will be responsible for delivering this project within timescales, as agree with the client.

- Throughout the process, you will need to communicate with both the OEM, the internal team and other suppliers, to continually update & report progress. You will be a key contact for the client, and will need to keep them updated at every stage of the project, communicating issues, and getting sign off on designs.

- Any changes made need to be thoroughly thought through and all implications realised. ''If we do x, that means we will need to move this clip, and add y in'', ''will this impacting the harness routing'' etc.

- Liaising with other suppliers e.g. Draxelmier, they may have been nominated to supply the airbag system, and any change you make to the interior could impact their design. This need to be resolved before the final design goes to the client.

- Escalating any issues to the Lead Engineer, and as necessary making the client aware

Essential the client will present you with a problem, are you are responsible for supplying a timely solution, which is cost effective and of the highest quality. The simplistic process is ''Solution, Sign off, Production''

Skills required:

- 3yrs + experience in a similar development role - involved in new concept designs

- In depth knowledge of Automotive Mnf. processes - tooling, injection moulding, testing etc.

- Experience of working for a Tier 1 / Tier 2 supplier of products such as interiors, injection mouldings, kinematic parts.

- Experience of taking a project all the way through from concept stage, through production all the way up to launch.

- Understands key processes such as GD&T, DFM, DFA, CAE, FEA, CAD, FMEA & DVP&R

- High level client liaison

- Supplier liaison

- Able to interrogate data

- Document control and ensuring a thorough paper trail
