We are currently recruiting for two Environmental/Sustainable Design Specialists to work for our Highways Sector client. Positions can be based at multiple office locations across England.

The Role:

To provide sustainable development and environmental design technical content leadership for maintenance and development of environmental design policy, standards, and specifications for all works on the motorway and all-purpose trunk road network. The work will focus on Requirements and Advice Documents (RADs) within the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, specifically Volume 10 and more widely. It supports and enables the business to deliver corporate objectives around good environmental design, legislative and policy compliance, as well as value for money.

Key Accountabilities:

Assist Document Owners in the management and maintenance of RADs relating to sustainable development and environmental design, through proactively planning a programme of document development;
Assist Document Owners in arranging peer review or consultation with relevant company specialists and/or external specialists;
Assist Document Owners in obtaining consensus through the approvals process that the new or revised document meets the technical needs of the business and can progress to publication;
Advise and provide progressive assurance and support to Document Authors during the drafting process;
Assist Document Authors in developing and implementation of training;
Periodically review RADs to identify if the document needs to be revised, remain as it is or be withdrawn.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Understanding of Highways England business activities;
Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or environmental technical discipline, with a strong emphasis on sustainable development and environmental design.
Including BSc, BA, MSc, MA, HND/HNC Foundation Degree such as;
- Environmental Design;
- Landscape architecture or urban design;
- Planning;
- Sustainable Development.
Excellent written skills with the ability to provide advice and guidance to Technical Specialists on how to translate complex subject matter into clear and understandable written information or requirements.
