Business Development Manager - Contract Caterer Hard & Soft FM - (Healthcare Sector) - Job Summary

This is an amazing opportunity for an accomplished Business Development Manager to join a leading Contract Catering, Soft & Hard Facilities Management company. The successful candidate will manage the sales and bid process for the Healthcare sector and produce winning bids in response to client needs.

Business Development Manager - Contract Caterer Hard & Soft FM - (Healthcare Sector) - Role Responsibility


  • Engage will clients (current and prospective) across the Healthcare sector to build and maintain positive relationships
  • Pro-actively identify opportunities and build a pipeline in line with agreed targets
  • Demonstrate understanding of industry sector and maintenance of knowledge to ensure that the business is kept up to date with current developments
  • Understand and have experience in current and future public sector procurement, UK and European laws
  • Management of the sales process for designated areas (e.g. maintenance of accurate CRM data and pipeline) Innovation and challenging thinking to develop winning solutions Sales negotiation and presentation of solutions to client

Bid Management

  • Prepare all bids in a timely, effective and efficient manner to meet all client specified and company requirements for tender submissions
  • Ensure understanding and management of bids in line with bid process
  • Ensure every interaction with client during bid process (i.e. PQQ, presentations, etc.) clearly articulates the customer proposition and the company competitive advantage
  • Attend site visits and client meetings as required to gain an overview of existing service function and gain an understanding of the client requirements.
  • Produce bids which meet the highest standards of completeness and comply with brand requirements on identity and USPs
  • Ensure that corporate policies and initiatives are leveraged to benefit the client offering (i.e. safety, compliance, environmental, carbon footprint, good governance, IT, HR etc)


  • Ensure all bids have a robust and sustainable pricing model
  • Assist in the identification of commercial risks within each proposal together with viable suggestions on how to manage the risks identified so as to provide information to make decisions on minimising risk
  • Assist in the evaluation in order to propose best commercial model for bids with the intention of meeting/exceeding clients expectations

Product Development

  • Ensure the right focus and competencies in the development of the IFS product Deliver ongoing support from the product champions
  • Develop exciting and fresh product/service offerings for the existing market (and any potential new channels to market) to reflect the changing needs and wants of the industry
  • To identify sales opportunities within the sector either through formal advertisement (OJEU for example) or through other commercial media
  • To actively develop strategic relationships with external stakeholders, consultants and organisations that will assist in the development and awareness of the company to generate sales opportunities
  • To work closely with the Sales Support Team to identify and co-ordinate PQQ, ITT and presentational activity within the sector and ensure all appropriate opportunities are pursued and co-ordinated in a timely and professional manner to customer or process deadlines
  • To ensure a value proposition and bespoke sales strategy/vision is developed for every sales opportunity that will maximise our opportunity for success based on key customer criteria
  • To attend sector conferences and other industry networking opportunities to help raise awareness and identify commercial and service opportunities
  • To ensure all tender documentation is professionally prepared, costed, presented and written in accordance with the agreed sales vision for that customer
  • To co-ordinate activity with any external consultants in line with the agreed commercial budget
  • To regularly and critically review all healthcare bid documentation to ensure it is refreshed and updated periodically
  • To inspire, lead and direct the team of Business Development Managers to maximise retention and growth opportunities to achieve or exceed the agreed annual sales targets
  • To manage, coordinate and prioritise the workload of the Business Development Team to ensure a fair distribution of workload is achieved and the teams strengths and skills are best utilised for each opportunity
  • To develop and manage appropriate level and proactive relationships with our current and prospective customers
  • To proactively review and demonstrate commercial awareness of competitor developments and activities and utilise these to the benefit of any company proposition
  • To conduct regular team meetings to ensure strong and binding communication is achieved on business activities, priorities, financial performance
  • To proactively liaise with other Sales Directors within HEAD to ensure the most effective utilisation of Business Development Managers is achieved against the agreed commercial targets
