Laboratory Technician

£30k + shift allowance| Telford| Permanent

If so, you could be perfect for this role. We are currently looking to recruit a Laboratory Technician for one of the world's premier global automotive suppliers. Our client is establishing a brand new, state of the art facility in the Telford area, specializing in high pressure die-casting that will design and build medium to large aluminium automotive components.

You will be an integral "Cross Functional Team member "in the plant Quality team. The team is responsible for all activities from quoting new business to successfully sustained full volume production.

You will be responsible for the Quality Laboratory elements, using the QMS processes and site test equipment to make data based Product Quality decisions.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Work collaboratively to support the customer and team through innovation, lessons learned and best practices
  • Responsible for coordinating all defined product testing activities throughout the launch process and into production
  • Interpret the customers systems and specifications and ensure they are met
  • Support process improvement and problem solving meetings as and where required
  • Support to ensure the phased/gated deliverables in the APQP process (and customer websites) are met on time
  • Spectrometer analysis - Use Spectro' to test and give feedback to Melt process
  • Tensile machine - Carry out tensile testing.
  • Complete microstructure analysis of parts. Undertake preparation, testing, and examination of metallurgical specimens
  • Analyse results, produce reports, and make appropriate recommendations in order to ensure metals and associated processes are fit for purpose.
  • Raise submissions to out-source testing house(s) for mechanical properties and other testing not undertaken at company site.
  • Ensure that testing processes and procedures and robust, fit for purpose and all equipment and tools in use are well maintained and correctly calibrated.
  • Regularly assess Laboratory functions for technical adequacy, report and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Operate blister oven to carry out porosity checks
  • Carry out Hardness checks using hardness tester
  • To be computer literate and able to use MS Office package (MiniTab would be an asset)
  • Flexibility to carry out other duties as and when required
  • Analyse results, produce reports, and make appropriate recommendations in order to ensure metals and associated processes are fit for purpose.
  • Maintain calibrations and records for Lab equipment and production equipment as required by the necessary schedule.
  • Report any failure of calibrations, advise on any actions required, and undertake re-calibration following rectification.
  • Ensure that testing processes and procedures and robust, fit for purpose and all equipment and tools in use are well maintained and correctly calibrated.
  • Regularly assess Laboratory functions for technical adequacy, report and make recommendations for improvements.
