This role is designed to take a lead and co-ordinate the activities required to move substantial sales opportunities into production. The role will be supported at each site by local expertise. The Business Development Project Manager will engage with our customer together with Bodycote operations, quality and sales colleagues to fully understand and realise customer expectations. The incumbent will be the prime contact on substantial project for all stake holders. They will take the lead, develop and establish robust processing methods that can be transferred to production. They will be responsible for the production of any planning, production and quality documentation that is deemed necessary to facilitate operational control. The position will require extensive interaction with Works Managers, Quality Managers and members of our Sales team. The incumbent will work with minimal supervision within established guidelines as set by the UK Country Manager.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

  • To ensure Bodycote is process capable, have all the relevant approvals and ensure we can achieve the customer’s requirements and turn times.
  • Assist in day to day production environment solving any production issues
  • Responds to identified customer complaints and requests for special handling service and quotes / inquiries regarding needs and services.
  • Coordinates and expedites outside processing to meet customers' delivery requirements.
  • Looks for and recommends changes that will improve the accuracy of projected delivery of parts.
  • Interfaces closely with division Metallurgist, Sales, and Quality Manager during the quotation process regarding facilities and capabilities.
  • Work closely with the relevant member of the sales team (RSDM) Accounts Manager to ensure that Sales Force is kept up to date.
  • As required visit customers and suppliers to discuss new projects and resolve any technical issues on current projects.
  • Convert quotation wins into repeatable production jobs.
  • Produce in cooperation with the relevant Quality / Technical manager any such controlling documentation as is required.
  • Participates in staff meetings and works closely with the sales team to ensure total customer service.

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Must possess general metallurgical knowledge obtained through formal university or
  • experience, training, capable of reading and interpreting drawings.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills for interfacing with top management levels,
  • shop floor supervision and customers.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of Company’s processes, capabilities, equipment availability
  • and special processing requirements. Should also be familiar with other Bodycote
  • operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and history of implementing lean principles, preferable to have at
  • least Green Belt status
  • Must be capable of providing the sales team with accurate prices of work to be performed,
  • by reviewing drawings, estimating time required to fixture and process parts.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of our customer’s specifications (aerospace and
  • defense, power generation, oil and gas and commercial).
  • Requires ability to instil confidence in customers through understanding of needs and
  • maintaining a high level of credibility.
  • Must possess exceptional customer service skills and be tactful, diplomatic and patient when
  • interacting with customers and their employees either at our or their facilities.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office, Project and Visio is required.
  • Must have the ability to follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and
  • follow rules and procedures and accept constructive feedback.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of Company’s processes*, capabilities, equipment availability
  • and special processing requirements. Should also be familiar with other Bodycote
  • operations. *Vacuum Heat treatment, Vacuum brazing, Nitriding, Sealed quench and
  • Electron beam welding.
