Residential Childcare Workers - Herefordshire / Worcestershire

Dove Resourcing is working in partnership with a leading UK childcare provider to source reliable and committed support staff to its residential childcare units across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

We have a number of small residential services looking for staff, these homes are small occupancy children homes, working with 3-4 young people between the ages of 10 & 18 whom exhibit emotional and behavioural difficulties.

We have services as far north as Presteigne, spanning across to Worcester, Malvern & Hereford.

Behaviours can be challenging and sometimes aggressive in nature, so a resilience to this and patience to foster relationships with vulnerable young people is hugely important.

To apply for a residential support worker role you must be able to identify either direct experience working with children and young people or alternatively transferable skills from other care settings.

If you can show the resilience and reliability required to work with children and young people and act as a positive role model to enhance the quality of these young people’s lives then we would like to hear from you.

Working in residential childcare you would be expected to;

  • Be a positive role model to children and young people
  • Ensure a caring environment is maintained
  • Have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness and homeliness are maintained.
  • Ability to work as a team and use your own initiative
  • Support and encourage young people’s independence by assisting with their independent living skills
  • Supervise young people during social outings and trips from the placement
  • Offer support to other members of staff and lead shifts as and when required.
  • Keep updated daily records and ensure sound understanding of each young persons care plan.
  • Have an understanding of child development and the impact of abuse

You must be a car driver and have access to your own car.

You will be expected to work shifts, shifts in these homes work on a 1 on 2 off basis, you will work with young people from when they awake in the morning through to when settled and go to bed, you will then do a sleep in, handover the following morning and then have two days off.

As such you will be away from home 24 hours at a time.

Salaries;

£8 rising to £8.65 per hour upon completion of level 3 diploma in residential childcare. You will receive £30 per sleep in.

You can expect on average to complete 8-10 sleep ins per month. Overtime will be available should you wish to boost your income.
