A Technical Author is now required for a market leading organisation based in Birmingham. My client produce award winning software solutions and have a very impressive portfolio of clients which will allow them to produce rewarding work for a considerable time.

My client is looking to expand their Customer Services Centre for Excellence Team with an experienced Technical Author. The successful candidate will become part of a well-established Development Department working alongside highly capable software development professionals.

You will work as part of the Platform Reliability Team in an Agile environment which focuses on improving customer experience through strategic enhancements and fixing of existing bugs. My clients goal is to deliver and deploy quality software solutions while contributing ideas to help the Team with its continual improvement.

Day to day you will work closely with developers and support staff to create both internal and external FAQ's, how to articles, training guides and release notes.

Technical Author key Responsibilities:

• Determine the needs of end users of technical documentation

• Study product samples and talk with product designers and developers

• Work with technical staff to make products easier to use and thus need fewer instructions

• Organize and write supporting documents for products

• Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, video, animation, and charts that increase users' understanding

• Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals or online videos

• Standardise content across platforms and media

• Gather usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers

• Revise documents as new issues arise

Essential requirements for the Technical Author

• Graduate calibre or equivalent.

• Excellent written communication skills with experience writing comprehensive yet clear, well-structured documentation for both technical and non-technical users, based on complex, technical information.

• Excellent verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work in an environment which provides a responsive customer experience.

• Attention to detail with a "right first time" attitude.

• Ability to present information in various formats e.g. FAQs, visual guides, technical specifications, etc.

• Must be able to work well as part of a team or by themselves.

• Ability to understand complex functionality quickly.

The Technical Author can expect a competitive salary of up to £34,000 and will qualify for the following benefits:
