Service Coordinator

Our client is a charitable organisation that provides safe, emergency, temporary accommodation for homeless young people between the ages of 16 and 25 in the homes of trained volunteer hosts.

Position: Nightstop Coordinator
Location: Kidderminster, West Midlands
Contract type: Part Time, 12-month fixed term contract with potential to extend subject to funding (this project is funded by the Big Lottery)
Hours: 28 per week (may include evenings, weekends and on-call)
Salary: £20,000 to £22,000 per annum, pro rata, dependant on experience
Benefits: Auto-enrolment into Pension Scheme after 3 months service, 25 days holiday with an increment of 1 day for each complete year of service up to a maximum of 5 days, bank and public holidays are in addition to this (pro rata)

About the Role:

The Service Coordinator will lead in the recruitment, induction and training of all volunteers and the recruitment, training and supporting of hosts for the scheme and provide initial advice and assessments for homeless young people. You will ensure that young people are referred and placed appropriately, receive a sensitive service and satisfactory follow-up. This will include encouraging them to access services and/or access mediation where appropriate

You will also lead in delivering programmes for young volunteers in conjunction with the Education Officer and support the Education Officer with projects delivered with schools, e.g. delivery of awareness sessions. Additionally you will publicise the service through talks, publicity and social media and liaise with partner agencies and represent Wyre Forest Nightstop as required.

About You:

The successful candidate will have 5 GCSE (or equivalent) passes at grade C or higher, including in English Language. A HND (or equivalent) in business studies; community development/education; human resource management; social care; youth/social work; housing would also be beneficial. You must also have experience of the housing/homelessness sector and of working with volunteers.

You will have experience of developing, scheduling and delivering training events and activities and of monitoring project performance against objectives. Relevant experience of work experience with disadvantaged young people would be an advantage, as would experience of supervising or managing other people (employees or volunteers).

Additionally you will have the ability to network effectively and build strong and effective partnerships with external stakeholders. You will also have experience of organising, scheduling and administration of training events. Computer literacy, including well developed skills in using the full suite of Microsoft Office applications is also essential. Experience of compiling reports for Management Committee members would be an advantage.

Knowledge and understanding of the issues and challenges homeless young people face and of the support needs of young people and how they might be best met is essential. You will also have knowledge of training needs analysis, design, delivery and assessment methods and an understanding of the sector and commissioning/funding within the specialist area(s). You must be prepared to work flexibly, including additional hours, in response to the needs of the organisation. A driving licence and access to a car is desirable.

An enhanced DBS with barred lists check will be required for the successful post holder.
