Hydraulic Systems Engineer

GBP35,000 - GBP50,000 Basic Salary + Very Competitive Package

The Company

My client is European blue chip organisation who supply markets as diverse as aerospace, offshore and the quarrying industry; they both design and build bespoke hydraulic systems for applications such as proportionally controlled power packs, automotive test rigs, marine winches and mobile lifting equipment.

They have the right blend of know-how, skills and services to help you ensure your hydraulic systems and equipment are always running at optimum efficiency, helping you to maintain maximum productivity at minimum total cost.

Primary purpose of the role:

  • To profitably design and produce hydraulic systems and sub-assemblies

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with customers, Application Engineers and supply partners to specify and design hydraulic systems and configure sub-assemblies
  • Cost these and support the quotation process
  • To organise the manufacture of these to meet customer requirements, whether that is through partners or internally
  • Produce CAD drawings where appropriate
  • Provide high level Hydraulic technical support for the UK overall when required
  • Provide technical support to the Hydraulic Product Manager
  • Hydraulic training when required
  • Help shape and grow the hydraulic systems business and a team to do this


  • Costing to hydraulic systems to support the quotation process
  • An understanding and appreciation for profitability
  • An understanding of the hydraulics market and how to focus our business to add customer value and maximise profitability
  • Ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally, with suppliers and customers


  • Understanding of product Profit and Loss


  • Knowledge of business systems
  • Knowledge of Stock Management principles and systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word
  • Ability to prepare and deliver management information within required deadlines


  • Motivational skills - Customer and Team members
  • Understanding of, and ability to effectively action Health and Safety principles and procedures
  • Good knowledge of some or all categories of Maintenance, Repair and Operational product and service range
  • Good knowledge of OEM markets and applications
  • The successful candidate will have the following profile


  • Specific technical, specialised or professional know-how needed - At least 5 years of Hydraulic systems and components experience
  • Minimum post qualification time and experience necessary to become fully proficient in the roll - Minimum of 5 years work experience
  • Knowledge and level of proficiency in the use of IT software packages required - Proficient user of windows based programmes


  • Proficiency in the use of any specialised equipment - Use of CAD systems
  • Minimum vocational/academic qualifications required - Relevant HNC
  • Professional Qualification required Modern technical or commercial apprenticeship, A level or relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Engineering Qualification - Formal Hydraulic system training
