Project Development Team Manager – Electricity Transmission

Salary: £55k - £65k

Location: National Grid Head Office, Warwick including travel to other sites around the UK

The Network Management function within National Grid is at the core of planning, optioneering and developing a portfolio of electricity transmission projects to deliver our key business objectives. Within Network Management, there is now a fantastic opportunity to join the Project Development Department who are at the heart of developing our Electricity Transmission Projects.

The Project Development Team is accountable for developing and evaluating some of the largest electricity construction projects on the system, having a keen commercial eye on delivering the project’s scope, programme, safety and cost objectives before handing the project over to our delivery teams. Your team will be accountable for developing and evaluating various options for electricity transmission construction projects which address a wide range of electricity transmission system needs. The main responsibility for you will be to manage a team of Development Engineers and so, strong people-management skills will be the key to success.

About the Role:

  • Accountable for leading a team of 6+ Development Engineers, ensuring they have a comprehensive understanding of their projects, managing their interfaces and support contracts effectively;
  • Accountable for ensuring your team thoroughly develops the project, while understanding and effectively mitigating construction hazards and project risks. This will be demonstrated through the production of competent Project Execution Plans which will support the establishment of delivery contracts, and internal financial sanctioning.
  • Support in the production of high quality ‘least cost, fit for purpose’ capital investment project plans to enable contracting and delivery;
  • Effectively manage and mitigate the Project Execution Plan delivery risk, working together with the team to regularly review all projects;
  • Support your team in the resolution of complex issues;
  • Ensure that projects are developed in compliance with Safety and CDM regulations;
  • Leading a team towards process improvement, best practice, and strongly encourage personal development and great performance through mentoring and coaching;

About you

  • Ideally you will come from a construction or engineering background with experience in a similar role;
  • You will have proven experience in the project planning and programme management of multiple projects, interactions of projects at different stages and interfaces with other parts of the business through effective team leadership;
  • Chartered status or similar in the field of engineering or contract/project management would be highly desirable;
  • You will be commercially focused, cost driven and customer centric in your approach;
  • Knowledge of Electricity Transmission construction projects is highly desirable;
  • Team Leadership and evidence of development of a remote team is essential;
  • Having a drive for results using your knowledge to drive improvements to business processes is key to the success of this role.
