National Inventory Manager - International Timber - Coventry

Job Purpose

Reporting into the Timber group Operations Director, the National Inventory Manager (NIM) will be responsible for developing the forecasting, purchasing and stock control system which will be used across all of the 6 International Timber sites. The system should have the capability to optimise levels of stock to ensure the required stock availability while minimising the cash invested in stock.

The NIM will act as the main point of contact for International Timber with the SGBD category team on purchasing and stock levels and with the stock managers at each of the sites to understand their specific requirements.

In addition the NIM will take the overall responsibility for implementing continual improvement regarding inventory management.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required

Essential

  • Degree level in Logistics or equivalent

  • Experience in general stock control (multi-sites)

  • Good analytical skills, processing large volumes of data to make effective decisions

  • Competent user of suitable IT systems, eg, Microsoft products, particularly Excel & Access

  • Valid UK driving licence and willing to drive nationally

Desirable

  • A good understanding of the Sales, Operations and purchasing processes at all levels of the organisation

  • Knowledge of working capital management and financial processes, including write down mechanisms

  • Previous buying / purchasing experience

Key Results Areas

You will be required to:

  • Deliver against service level, stock and slow moving targets as agreed with Operations Director

  • Utilising site capacity and under-cover storage areas to determine product range stocking policies

  • Minimise use of external storage facilities with improved product flow

  • Working with SGBD category team to understand their requirements

  • Working with the Marketing teams to understand any product incentives

  • Working with suppliers to deliver improved service, MOQ, and EOQ opportunities

  • Guarantee suitable product availability is ahead of target to optimise sales opportunities

  • Ability to manage and influence a variety of stakeholders

  • Part of the team to improve and implement stock management processes and procedures

  • Delivering organisational and cultural change as part of a team

  • Ensure system accuracy of inventory
