While operating in over 90 countries, our Client has developed into a well recognised and highly regarded design and manufacturing specialist who provides bespoke engineering solutions to the nuclear energy, nuclear decommissioning and defence markets - becoming Italy’s largest supplier, installer and service provider within this sector. As well as offering ongoing specialist support services they focus on everything from the design all the way through to installation and commissioning.

The Role:

As 'Head of Commissioning’ you will be accountable for the delivery, testing and commissioning of work packages and to ensure they substantiate the original bespoke design.

You will be required to provide expert advice on multiple projects across the business, advising on all aspects of commissioning throughout the product lifecycle.

You will be the Commissioning authority and signatory for estimates, tenders and bids.

You will need to ensure the performance of all commissioning activities relating to the projects are carried out in accordance with the best engineering practice.

You will be responsible for unit resources, management, development and training.

You will be responsible for the quality of Commissioning engineering output, adherence to standards, compliance and legislation.

You will need to ensure the final quality of the set of deliverables, in accordance with the efficiency objectives, is established for each project, the business area and the Company.

You will provide guidance on procedures and standards which are the most appropriate for the development of the design.

You will be responsible for the checking and approval of the scope readiness for process stages

You will be responsible for the acceptance, approval and execution of the test and commissioning strategy, satisfying safety and functional requirements and chairing compliance reviews.

You will be required to escalate issues and seek advice from the Engineering Manager when encountering complex problems.

You will provide support to the Project Engineer when in technical discussions with Clients.

You will identify the possible need for any acquisition of new knowledge/updates and of technical Know-How development for each project.

You will have to be capable of properly identifying Client's requirements, scope of works and costs relevant to each project both for bids and contract execution.

You will be responsible for all schedules of delivery for within each project and each task/assignment.

You will need to be able to lead continuous improvement initiatives on a day-by-day basis relevant to the technical disciplines of each project.

You will be required to apply the company procedures for Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Systems and Organizational Models on a day-to-day basis.

You will maintain safety, discipline and control of allocated staff and contractors, ensuring adherence to safe systems of work and HR Guidelines.

Essential Skills:

Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Degree Qualified (or Equivalent) - typically with post-graduate qualification (MSc, MEng, PhD).

Test and Commissioning capability

Minimum of 10 years continuous and technical relevant experience of which 5 as technical authority / signatory

Must be a UK Passport holder

This role will require SC clearance to be obtained.

Member of IMechE/IET (Chartered Engineer status preferred)

Nuclear Industry Experience preferred

Management and control of Engineering delivery Commissioning teams

Specialism in one or more of the following areas:

- Nuclear Decommissioning / New Build / Plant Life Extension
- Remote Handling Equipment
- Lifting Equipment / cranes
- Bespoke Heavy Engineering Plant
- Harsh environment remote equipment
- Machine Control systems, instrumentation and process applications
- Plant wide automation
- Complex safety related high integrity plant and equipment and system automation
