A new role has arisen for an Event Management Lead to provide mobilisation and readiness of the Event Management capability for infrastructure and applications supporting the Emergency Services Network. The Emergency Services Network forms part of a cross-government, multi-agency programme that will deliver the communication system of the future to the emergency services and other public safety users (known as sharers) throughout Great Britain. This system will be called the Emergency Services Network (ESN).

Role Purpose and Suitability:

  • Reporting to the Head of NMC, the Event Management Lead is primarily accountable for the mobilisation and readiness of the Event Management Process and supporting tools during the design and transition phases of the ESN implementation into Service Operations.
  • This role will be primarily located within our northern Operations Centre but will be required to travel to our southern Operations Centre as reasonably required by the role and in times of BCDR invocation and during the transition stage.
  • The successful candidate will have sound industry experience of Event Management tools, systems, processes and techniques and be able to demonstrate experience in IBM Netcool and BMC Remedy.
  • The successful candidate will preferably have experience in Network and IT Operations Event teams within these environments, and experience of aligning to the ITIL Framework. Initially, this role will be accountable for helping to establish the Event Management processes, policies, tools and critical path activities of the mobilisation of ESN.
  • The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience as a first line specialist within the Event management domain, be able to evidence the ability to operate successfully in a demanding environment, whilst maintaining high morale, high achievement and actively supportive of a collaborative culture.
  • The role will be a key interface point to the wider Service Operations function and the successful candidate must therefore demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective relationships across a wide landscape.

Key Skills and Experience:

    • Sound experience operating in the Event Management space - essential
    • Able to build and sustain effective relationships across customers and suppliers is essential
    • Demonstrable experience in Event Management tools and systems e.g. Netcool, BMC Remedy is essential.
    • Able to demonstrate the ability to drive improvements in Event Management SLAs e.g. first-time-fix, alarm reduction, automated fix etc.
    • Excellent understanding of BMC Remedy Service Management Suite is essential
    • Experience in monitoring Business Support Systems and associated business processes is desirable.
    • Solid experience of monitoring IT Infrastructure, Network, transmission and application
    • Good understanding of BMC Service Management Process Model would be beneficial
    • Experience in Oracle OBIEE would be desirable
    • Experience of Public Safety Communication technology and services - desirable

The successful candidate will need to undergo UK security vetting for this position. This will involve:

  • Completion of a security clearance questionnaire by the candidate
  • Checking identity documents and employment/education/references/residency in the UK (a minimum of 5 years)
  • Checks against UK criminal and security records
  • A credit reference check;
  • If considered necessary, checks against the criminal and security records of relevant foreign countries.
