This role sits within the DBA Team, reporting to the Development & Technical Operations Manager. The DBA Lead's responsibilities are varied and encompass skills and tasks ranging from performance tuning through to technical design, build and delivery, including participating in setting the strategy, and developing the roadmap for the database technologies deployed within the organisation.

Key elements of the role are:

  • Manage current and future workloads of the DBA Team
  • Manage the relationship and licensing agreements with Oracle
  • Managing and developing the relationship between the organisation and Microsoft
  • Maintain the Oracle technology stack and Microsoft SQL Server Database Roadmap
  • Manage the objectives and personal development of DBA resources
  • Ensure that database best practices are followed during systems design and build
  • Ensure documentation is created, maintained and accurate
  • Ensure adherence to the Release and Change process
  • Ensure adherence to all HR policies, rules and responsibilities
  • To support and maintain the Oracle database estate
  • To support and maintain the Microsoft SQL Server database estate
  • To support and maintain the WebLogic, Oracle Internet Directory services and Oracle Application Server estate
  • Support and maintain the monitoring and alerting for Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • To support wider Capita Local Government Services DBA activities and initiatives
  • Manage and participate in the provision of an out of hours rota.
  • Ensure compliance by the team for all mandatory training activities as designated by the organisation

Essential experience/skills:

  • Proven experience of managing a technical team
  • Proven experience of Database Administration
  • Oracle Database Administration versions 10g, 11g, 12c, including cloud based offerings
  • Oracle Application Server Administration versions 10gias
  • Oracle WebLogic Server Administration versions 10g, 11g, 12c
  • SQL Server Database Administration versions 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016 and Azure SQL Database
  • Unix knowledge - preferably AIX v6.1 +
  • Server Virtualisation
  • RMAN
  • Data Guard/Active Data Guard
  • Database Partitioning
  • Advanced Security
  • Performance tuning
  • Database design and build
  • OEM - Oracle Enterprise Manager
  • ITIL/Service Delivery experience

Desired Experience/Skills

  • Apex development
  • Data warehousing
  • ITIL accreditation/ISO 20000 experience
  • Working in a large estate e.g. 1000 + databases
  • OCP certification
  • Unix Shell scripting
  • Programming experience - e.g. Pearl, HTML, PLSQL, Powershell
  • Omnibus/NetCool Monitoring & Alerting
  • ServiceNow Ticketing system
  • Linux, MYSQL and Postgres
