A regional sub contractor is looking for an experience health and safety advisor to work from their Birmingham office. Their projects are typically subcontract packages on major build projects. The subcontract packages can vary from £100k - £1 million

- Degree educated, or equivalent in Construction Management, or a related subject.
- Experience in managing significant bids to win profitable work.
- A successful track record of delivering work-winning, quality-led bids.
- Experience working in a similar role with a leading main contractor within the UK market.
- A hands-on, proactive approach to work

Key Responsibilities:

- General & Risk Control
- Review of Safety procedures to ensure all relevant legislation is complied with
- Provide support and advice to any part of the business on Safety & Health issues and to ensure that the Safety & health policies, together with any local guidance are fully aligned in order that no conflict or confusion exists
- Work closely with and support the operational teams in carrying out their roles and responsibilities for Safety & Health and implementing Safety, Health and Environmental Management System (KSHEMS)
- Attend pre-start meetings and advise on CDM, welfare, work at height and other high risk activities as directed by Group Head of Safety
- Advise and assist teams in drawing up risk assessments, safe systems of work and evaluating method statements, using sound and in-depth experience and knowledge of on-site activities
- Identification and notification of changes in health & safety legislation

Investigation

- Lead or support investigations in accordance with Safety & Health policies and procedures
- Ensure all SHE lessons learnt events are communicated effectively across the group
- Ensure that all SHE reporting requirements are provided accurately and in a timely manner
- Assist the line management in the compiling of accident reports for accidents and providing recommendations to prevent a reoccurrence
- Update senior managers and directors on SHE issues regularly, and immediately following any serious incidents or enforcing authority involvement
- Produce Bulletins, Alerts and Information as directed

Training and Competency

- Assist management in identifying SHE training, promote SHE training programmes and assist in any improvements, and liaising with the Learning and Development team to progress training
- Assist in developing toolbox talks and briefings on key issues
- Deliver SHE training courses and briefings where the need arises
- Tasks will be carried out in a manner wholly consistent with SHE policies without compromise.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

- NEBOSH diploma or equivalent (or demonstrable IPD/CPD equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety
- Excellent knowledge and experience of Construction and/or Building techniques, hazards, risks and associated control measures
- Working knowledge BS OHSAS 18001 Standard
- Experience in similar or supporting post
- Experience working understanding of SHE legislation
- Good oral and written communicator
- Ability to work as part of a team and to positively influence others
- Ability to work on own initiative, deliver key objectives while working under pressure and coping with stressful situations
