Senior Buyer - Global Infrastructure Organisation

GBP40,000 + Bonus

Our client are a leading international infrastructure organisation require an experienced Buyer. You will be responsible for working closely with project staff to meet the procurement schedule for projects, in accordance with procurement policies and processes. As well as, for higher value/higher risk contracts, working with Procurement colleagues to ensure best value deals at competitive market rates are agreed.


  • Ensure project requirements are met and best value deals are negotiated to meet and exceed savings targets
  • Manages total annual spend typically up to approximately GBP10 million per annum and higher risk/complexity
  • Leads multi-disciplinary source teams through ITT process for contracts over GBP100k or higher risk to select best supplier
  • Negotiate agreements for Project that support on time delivery and meet Safety & Sustainability requirements
  • Negotiate supplier agreements at bid stage for nominated projects
  • Develops future plan for own spend areas with DU/project stakeholders including savings & delivery/Safety & Sustainability performance targets
  • Proactively investigate and propose supply chain improvements
  • Manage compliance with processes and ensure quality standards are maintained across the team(s), recommending improvements where necessary
  • Proactively manage the implementation of the behavioural safety programme and Sustainability 2020 Roadmap, across the team(s)
  • Manage, coach and develop talented teams to deliver high performance


  • Negotiation skills (advanced)
  • Basic Category Management knowledge
  • Ability to set up a source team & run successful tenders/ITTs
  • Good understanding of legal frameworks and contract law
  • Working knowledge of Oracle/P-cards etc.
  • Ability to understand customer & business needs, and to prioritise work accordingly
  • Understands supplier relationship management
  • Commercial awareness
  • Organisation and time management
  • Procurement experience at senior level in a large organisation
  • Experience of negotiating complex deals of high value/business impact, with a track record of making savings
  • Experience of running successful higher value/higher risk tenders/ITTs
  • Has successfully run simultaneous projects and delivered positive business results
  • Held senior procurement role in Rail, construction or manufacturing/industrial environment
