Release / Deployment Engineer - C++ C# TeamCity - Video Games - Midlands

Opportunity to join this Microsoft owned 1st party developer of XboxOne / 360 and Windows 10 games. Skills required include C++, C#, CI (Team City preferred, Jenkins, Hudson considered), Octopus and Splunk.

The Deployment Pipeline team is a small, empowered team responsible for reducing the time it takes from deciding to make a change to having it available to players. Their goal is to enable everyone in the studio to experiment and test their hypotheses through an effective feedback loop, in a reliable, quick and sustainable way. As a result, they identify and build many of the elements of the deployment system and define the working processes that are necessary for people to develop the products efficiently.

As an engineer you'll tackle tough* problems with little guidance and will help to set the direction of the group you're working with. They don't really do that whole 'estimates, schedules and Project Managers' thing, and that means you'll need to be comfortable with helping figure out what the best thing is to be doing right now. They promise you'll have access to a range of challenges that will test and broaden your experience. But most of all, you'll be part of a team of friendly, highly talented developers who like nothing better than sharing their own challenges and their expertise with you.

*and as a Microsoft 1st party studio when they say tough they mean you'll be working in areas where nobody in the industry has prior experience.

The role -

*Enable developers and artists to iterate locally as fast as possible.
*Help to provide a world class development environment, a scalable deployment pipeline and robust infrastructure that enable the company to develop, experiment and deliver high quality features quickly and with confidence.
*Solve the complex problems and challenges inherent in developing AAA games at scale without sacrificing stability, quality or velocity.
*Help transition some or all of the deployment pipeline off-premises.

Your skills -

*Show that you have rock solid software design, programming and debugging skills in, possibly, a range of languages - C++, C#
*Be enthusiastic about modern development techniques and be demonstrably keen to apply them to games. They're kind of test freaks; you have been warned
*Love the challenge of doing hard things, and in particular enjoy developing simple tools and processes to enable everyone to be able to do those hard things too.
*Be level headed and value-focussed, so as to prioritise conflicting requests.

We expect you to have experience in at least one of these areas:

*Implementing and maintaining Continuous Integration systems (TeamCity preferred)
*Software configuration management tools
*Version control system
*Monitoring systems
*Virtualisation

This is an initial 6 month contract, rate to GBP400 day. CVs to ***********************
