We have a great opportunity for an experienced Head of Environment, Health and Safety to assist key decision makers and implementers to develop safe environments and methods of working for colleagues, customers and other visitors. You will assess and recommend on occupational safety risk and business process control procedures and developments. This enables proportionate, sustainable and operationally viable policy and process improvements and compliance.

Key external contacts.
-Officers from regulatory authorities including Environmental health, Fire authority, Health and Safety Executive and Environment Agency.
-Contractors engaged by Halfords.
-Establish the priorities and agenda for the OS team.
-Design the Retail Operations safety management system.
-Design corporate safety management strategies.
-Ensure that Store Managers are aware of the risks and understand their requirements in providing safe working environments for colleagues and our customers.
-Track and drive implementation by accountability holders of agreed risk assessment recommendations.
-Interpret, investigate and resolve regulatory authority challenges that:
-undermine safety management or business model or threaten to escalate to enforcement actions and/or expose significant unaddressed risk.
-Advise and support resolution of occupational safety queries from store managers, area managers and divisional managers and the Retail Director.
-Set and agree the agenda for occupational safety training to key safety accountability holders and support delivery.
-Coordinate and conduct the majority of Retail Operations accidents that caused serious injury and/or that arose from targeted hazards to: prepare company defence and advise on further risk reduction proposals.
-Maintain liaison relationships with external bodies such as LAP, fire Building Control LAP, IBEC, Retail safety benchmarking group.
-Maintain internal liaison meetings – Store Development Safety Meeting, Service Review Forum. Wincanton Transport Safety meetings DC Controller review.
-Attend internal forums, - legal / customer service meeting, Risk management group, OMM.
-Produce monthly safety report, quarterly safety report, annual group safety report, biannual audit report.
-Rewrite the Stores Safety Log annually.
-Write the stores safety procedures manual.
-Monitor and manage the departmental budget.
-Conduct new store visit at fit-out and just before opening.
-Develop a high performing Health and Safet y team.
