Vehicle Technician - HGV and Fleet - Shelton, Shrewsbury

In the Severn Trent Transport team we are passionate about our fleet, our work environment and more importantly our people. We recognize that investments in both employee development and working environment drive us forward as a modern, innovative and ultimately industry leading operation.

We’re looking for a qualified Vehicle Technician to join our servicing team and expand on your technical skill set. In this role you’ll fault find, maintain, service and repair vehicles in the broad and varied Severn Trent Water fleet - which includes cars, light and heavy commercial vehicles and mobile plant.

You’ll need to have experience of fleet maintenance along with basic computer skills because when you’re not servicing and maintaining a diverse range of company vehicles and plant to a high standard, ensuring STW and manufacturer guidelines are followed, or preparing and presenting company vehicles for annual testing to required standards, you’ll be inputting all key job information daily into a fleet management system.

We’d love it if you’ve maintained auxiliary equipment like cranes, compressors, generators, vacuum and displacement pumps etc. and have experience of working on various makes and models of commercial vehicles, cars and mobile plant including agricultural and construction. However it’s essential that you’ve completed a recognised Apprenticeship with City & Guilds qualifications level 2 minimum, or NVQ equivalent in motor vehicle craft or time served. You’ll also need to have a HGV class 2 licence (we’ll support you to obtain your class 1 qualification), and have a driving licence preferably to LGV C + E category.

The working hours in this role are 8-4 Monday to Thursday, with a 3:30 finish on Fridays – however due to the nature of the fleet you’ll need to attend to unscheduled maintenance and emergency work as required to minimise vehicle downtime.

Severn Trent benefits include:

  • Salary of up to £26,500 (dependent upon experience)

  • Fantastic Pension scheme

  • 25 days’ holiday plus 8 bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell up to 5 additional days per year

  • Full range of Flexible benefits such as:

    • SMART water – save money on your bills

    • Private medical insurance

    • Dental Insurance

    • Childcare voucher scheme
