Broadcast Journalist, News Interactive West Midlands
BBC News Online West Midlands is looking for an experienced journalist to join our regional team, based in Worcester. They will predominantly be writing and creating content for the BBC News website and our social media platforms.
News Online is responsible for all web and text based services provided by BBC News. The growth in the number of services provided by the department, including digital video, is a direct result of new technologies which are changing the way that people can receive news content. The role of BBC News Online is to respond to these changes and make BBC News content available to people wherever and whenever they want it.
This role involves using your skills to write sharp, accurate text and also to have a keen awareness of still images, video and audio for use on one of the world's most heavily-used news websites. This will include covering stories for local, national and global audiences, as well as developing original stories and features. You will develop a range of skills as part of a team which co-ordinates online news coverage across the region.
This role offers an opportunity to work with colleagues across the West Midlands and BBC News to provide the strongest news-led online output.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have significant experience in daily news journalism, proven writing ability - ideally from a newspaper or news agency background - good IT skills and a clear vision of how to translate stories into lively multimedia material. The ability to integrate into a new team and draw effectively on the BBC's wide range of resources is essential to this post.
You must be able to think up creative treatments for stories and present ideas for original journalism. Additionally, we are looking for individuals who have a good understanding of our audiences to ensure we accurately reflect all under-represented communities within the region.
