Responsible for delivering accurate investment costs across our development programmes and specific schemes from inception to completion to eradicate waste and drive best value for our stakeholders & shareholders. Consistently improving our processes and cost base versus our competitors. Develops and delivers cost efficient schemes, in conjunction with construction quality & time, for Sainsbury's that deliver our capital and savings targets with balanced risk
What I need to do

Responsible for the delivery of project commercial information and services for all investment types in the most cost effective way
Lead the external work stream Quantity Surveyors and Cost Consultants in driving accurate investment costs, and best value within the Sainsbury's Development Programme. Accountable for challenging and approving store specific investment costs across the specific investments allocated
Demonstrate a high expertise in managing construction and fit out cost, and the ability to apply creativity in alternative methods of delivery specification
Responsible for delivering the value management process as part of the wider Store Development Group (SDG) process for all investments allocated
Work with cross functional teams/ stakeholders to ensure that we deliver cost savings whilst challenging/ influencing alternative specification or process opportunities
Work with the Head of Value management to actively promote and communicate a compelling cost strategy across work streams
Engage with all stakeholders (internal & external) up to C6/SM level and periodically report on any cost variances to model costs across all workstreams
Responsible for delivering and reporting cost in all investments allocated throughout the SDG process allocated from feasibility, via submission of schemes to Investment Board, through delivery including all change control and final accounts/ post investment reviews until the project is closed
Responsible for compliance to corporate governance process and change management mechanisms e.g. change board & within timescales and reporting of cost position to PDG & Investment Board
Responsible for the operational efficiency of specific proposals and planning standards, ensuring efficient store working/ construction can be achieved, and operating costs are minimised
Responsible for ensuring that our mechanical, electrical & refrigeration costs/ designs reflect best value
Responsible for capital expenditure on cost consultants and developing/ agreeing fees as necessary
Develop, monitor and act on key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure that the cost consultants provide a high value service through a Centre of Excellence approach and in conjunction with Supplier Management at Sainsbury's
How I will succeed

What I need to know

Able to demonstrate good understanding of how stores serve customers at an operational and organisational level, and to use this to develop relationships, and create new solutions and best practice
Can articulate the drivers for costs and the ability to develop alternative design solutions to mitigate these.
Able to demonstrate ability in modern construction methods, preferably in a retail environment
Able to demonstrate the application of complex theory (normally gained through higher education) in developing solutions
Able to demonstrate ability in managing outside agencies and 3rd party suppliers, and ensuring maximum performance to SSL standards
Strong communication skills (written and oral), and communication strategy
Experience working with cross functional teams
High level impact and influence
Excellent forward planning and organisational skills
Structured approach and clear deadline focus
Demonstrate the ability to coach and lead a team
Ability to manage and motivate virtual teams
Experience of managing mechanical, electrical & refrigeration costs would be preferable but not essential
RICS qualification or similar construction related field would be preferable but not essential
