Assistant Cost Engineer

Location: Birmingham/Droitwich

Overview of the role

The Assistant Cost Engineer will report directly to the Estimating and Approvals Manager. They are responsible for the tracking and management of product costs throughout the complete lifecycle of a product. Starting with reviewing and managing products costs as at the early engineering phases and ending with running value engineering programs to drive cost out of products already launched in the market place whilst continually working to ensure that quality is not compromised.

The role also involves an element of new product launch support, including generating rating labels for new products, working to maximise container and pallet fills and supporting the Quality/NPI department in ensuring suppliers are compliant in meeting the required product specifications for both sourced and in house designed products. The role will be based in Birmingham until Summer 2018, when it will relocate to Droitwich. Applicants must be able to travel to Droitwich thereafter.

The Nitty Gritty!

- Complete product reviews and CBOM analysis to generate cost saving ideas.
- Generate test plans with NPI to validate any changes that are to be made to products. Complete sample mapping in line with the test plans generated.
- Calculate and record all expenditure involved in making changes to products to determine if the change is feasible and cost effective.
- Complete engineering change requests in line with any valid changes once all testing has been completed.
- Produce regular reports on progress and present the data in an effective way to all key stake holders.
- Track product costs through tollgates and work with NPD to meet the cost target. (costs should include: packaging, PLGM, accessories/tools and the product).
- Update the central EMEA price list as and when price changes are triggered.
- Generate excel based reports on pallets fills and pallets required based in inbound stock.
- Record internal packaging data and maintain this data in a central company system.

What we need from you...

- A Levels (an A level in Maths, Science or technology is desirable)
- Economic / Engineering degree or diploma
- The ability to communicate confidently and clearly with stakeholders at all levels throughout the business.
- Holds oneself accountable for own actions.
- Well organised.
- Good negotiation skills.
- Computer literacy - Use of Microsoft packages is essential.
- Computer literacy - Use of Internal software (PDM Link, Qlikview, Redmine) - training will be provided.
